Thursday - Central Takes City 12-4

Central and NYC was a close game up until the fourth quarter when Central broke open the scoring and won the quarter 7-2. Central won the game with a 12-4 score.

Central-CityTom Grimm was the first person to score a goal for Men`s Lacrosse in the 2008 Empire State Games. Zack Tingley drove to the inside and passed it across to Grimm for the goal. John Greeley scored next from an unsettled clear. Forest Sonnenfeldt notched the first goal for NYC with 1:15 remaining in the first. Matt Taylor finished out the scoring for the first quarter with a drive from x and a pass up to the flat where Corey Lasda pitched it in. The score was 3-1 for Central at the end of the first.

The score remained the same throughout the second quarter and ended at 3-1 at the halftime break.

NYC scored the first goal of the third quarter with Neil Hamamato scoring on an outside shot to the upper corner. The City was within one goal at 3-2. Central scored the next two goals of the quarter. Jake Silberlicht and Pratt scored for Central.

Andrew Fiore drove to the corner and came up with a hard outside shot to bring the game back within two goals, but The City never got any closer.

Central scored the next five goals, with Torin Varn, Mike Poppleton, Carl Zimmerman, Greeley and Grimm all scoring. Julian Musikant scored the last NYC goal with a drive from x that hit the ground and two pipes before going into the cage. Grimm and Greeley hooked up for the final goal of the game.Central-City

Defensively for Central Chris Nourse was a powerhouse. He had four takes (and after two games leads all athletes with 9). He was there for the take, for the double team, and for the ground balls (7) and was a major contributor for Central.

In the cage, Samuel Grinberg played the whole game for NYC and finished with 10s/12ga. Central`s Alex Fiore and Steve Mahle split halves in the cage. Fiore played the first half and had 4s/1ga. Mahle played the second half and had 5s/3ga (63%).

Scoring for Central were Greeley (2g-2a), Grimm (3g), Varn (2g), Pratt (1g-1a), Lasda, Poppleton, Silberlicht all with (1g) and Tingley, Taylor and Prevost with (1a).

Scoring for NYC were Musikant (1g-1a), Andrew Fiore (1g), Hamamato (1g) and Sonnenfeldt (1g).
