SPORTSFIVE REPORT:
The second game of the day featured Victor playing Hamburg at All High Stadium in Buffalo. Victor`s Jamie Trimboli scored the first goal of the game with a drive down the left side just a minute and a half into the game. After a number of shots by Victor, Hamburg had a goal from senior offensiveman, Lucas Shafer scored an unassisted goal with a shot from high right. He scored again (unassisted) at the 4:51 mark after breaking past his defender. Shafer scored again on a run from midfield and past three Victor defensemen to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead that lasted to the end of the quarter in spite of a Victor man up opportunity.
The Blue Devils took off in the second quarter scoring seven goals to Hamburg`s four. Shafer scored again for the Bulldogs. His shot from the left wing was momentarily handled by Victor goalie Justin Young who then lost control and the ball entered the goal. Victor powered up and just twenty-five seconds later saw a feed from senior attackman Kyle Collins to Max Lambert. Collins drove from the back of the net and hit Lambert in front, who then spun around before shooting. Hamburg increased their lead to two with a goal that by senior middie Matt Borgese that, once again, trickled past the Victor goalie. Even Hollfelder took the score to 5-2 with his sweep right and a bounce shot. Victor woke up scoring the next three goals, the first two from unassisted drives by sophomore midfielder Mike DeMarco. The first came nearly from midfield as he dodged two defenders and finished with a left-handed wrist shot. On the ensuing face off DeMarco got the ball again and ran almost the same way to the goal just eighteen seconds later. Three minutes later and after a number of offensive sets at both ends of the field, Alex DeCarlo dodged from the front for his unassisted goal that tied the game at 5-5 with 2:05 left in the half. Hamburg won possession after the face off and Borgese scored a solo goal on a sweep to his left from way out front with a minute and a half left. Victor then scored three goals in just over a minute to take an 8-6 lead into the halftime break. Max Lambert, way out at the midfield line threw a long pass to Luke Bartkoski all alone on the top of the crease. The Blue Devils won a technical face off and Lambert picked up a loose ball after DeMarco`s shot came off the Hamburg goalie. Then, after winning the next face off, the Blue Devils made three passes to the crease where Collins took the ball from Lambert for the goal.
Scoring slowed down in the third quarter with the Bulldogs scoring one and the Blue Devils scoring two. The first goal was scored almost four minutes into the quarter. Hollfelder scored on a pop from the right wing at 8:07. DeMarco started with the Victor ball near midfield and after driving toward the goal, found Lambert alone on the far side. Hamburg brought the score to within one goal on a score at 1:52 by Shafer hit from outside right and the quarter ended with Victor up 9-8.
The Blue Devil defense stepped up in the last quarter holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the last twelve minutes including a penalty period when they were two men down. Sophomore goalie Justin Young played the whole game, making ten saves including a couple of pressure saves late in the game. There was no scoring until 3:46 when DeMarco found the cutting Dan Barrow for the final goal of the game at 3:46.
