Lightning Overcomes Gates

NOTES: Greece Arcadia/Odyssey played strong consistent lacrosse in their 11-8 win over Gates Chili. The Lightning scored 9 out of the first 11 goals to lead 9-2 with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter. Gates Chili scored 6 of the last 8 goals to make the final score look closer than the contest. Arc/Oly saw the return of senior Devon Zaov with 4g-1a. He was out last season on injury and his return will significantly help the Lightning offense this season. Another stand out performance came from eighth grader Matt McHale who made his Varsity debut with 5g.

First year head coach Josh Distin noted "[I'm] pleased with the intensity, effort, ball movement and excellent defense [of my team]". The defense had a strong day with juniors Jacob Corcoran coming up with 4 gbs and 4 takes to anchor the defense. Justin Hammond, Alexx Brown, Stan McMullen and DM Connor Mims all had strong days and accounted for 11 ground balls and 10 forced turnovers. In the cage, Gavin Catalano finished with 13 saves (62%) and 4 ground balls to start the season off strong.

Junior midfielder Brett Kirkpatrick finished perfect at non-technical face-offs winning 18/18 and losing only two draws to technical fouls (91%). He also led his team with 16 ground balls. Midfielder Joseph O'Hare finished with nine and goalie CJ Parker finished with seven. Parker finished with 19 saves between the pipes (54%). Leading the scoring charge for the Spartans was sophomore attackman Nicholas Ehmann with 4g. After a 3g game against Brighton, Ehmann leads his team in goals with 7.
