Churchville-Chili Tops Wayne 10-7

WAYNE-7 at CHURCHVILLE-CHILI-10- Churchville-Chili pulled away from Wayne Thursday evening with a four-goal second quarter to take control and earned a 10-7 non-league win. After the teams traded one goal apiece in the first, the Saints outscored Wayne four to two in the second to build a lead they would not give up. Wayne kept it within reach through the final two quarters but could not close the gap, as Churchville-Chili extended its series edge to three wins against two for Wayne.

Senior Cooper Lass led Churchville-Chili (1-2) with four goals, putting ten shots on net. Isaac Bailey added two goals and one assist while winning 11 of 18 face-offs for a 61% rate. Jaxon Leonard contributed two goals, Jack Sloan added one goal and two assists, and sophomore Patrick Callahan picked up two assists. David Donaghue added one goal. Freshman goalie Kaiden Leiston stopped seven of 14 shots for a 50% save rate over 48 minutes.

For Wayne (0-1), junior Shane Coleman led with three goals and one assist. Seniors Nick Caine and Tucker Eaton each added two goals. Freshman goalie Gavin Hamel turned in a strong effort in net, making 18 saves on 28 shots for a 64% save rate over 48 minutes.

Churchville-Chili hosts Williamsville East on a Wednesday evening next week, while Wayne travels to Honeoye Falls-Lima on a Tuesday evening.
