East United-Eastridge Holds Off Gates Chili 10-9
GATES CHILI-9 at EAST UNITED-EASTRIDGE-10- East United-Eastridge survived a second-quarter surge from Gates Chili to earn a 10-9 non-league win Thursday evening. Gates Chili trailed two to nothing after one quarter before erupting for five goals in the second to take a 5-5 lead into halftime. East United-Eastridge outscored the Spartans three to one in the third to rebuild a cushion, but Gates Chili made it close again with three goals in the fourth before time ran out. The win evens the all-time series at five wins apiece.
Brien Walker led East United-Eastridge (1-1) with four goals and two assists. Ethan Flannery added two goals, while Andrew LaFond, John Hart, Sebastian Clark, and Payton Terrigino each contributed one goal. Chancellor Williams chipped in one assist and LaFond added one of his own.
For Gates Chili (0-2), junior Joshua Yakowitz carried the offense with five goals and one assist. Sophomore Noah Truax had a four-assist night, and senior Callaway Phommachanh added two assists. Chandler Vogel posted one goal and one assist, while Gianni Salandy, Zach Fennell, and sophomore Colin Mancuso, scoring his first varsity goal, each added one goal. Mancuso also won 16 of 23 face-offs for a 70% rate. Junior goalie Demar Williams made 11 saves on 21 shots for a 52% save rate over 48 minutes.
East United-Eastridge hosts Haverling on a Tuesday evening next week, while Gates Chili travels to Brighton on next Wednesday.
