Third Quarter Goal Give Brockport the Win
Brockport held off Gates Chili 9-8 in a Monroe County D-3 opener on Tuesday. The Eagles trailed 2-1 after the first quarter but outscored Gates Chili three goals to two in the second to take the lead and then never looked back. Senior Ryan Miller reached two career milestones in the game, scoring his 100th and 101st career goals while also recording his 49th and 50th career assists.
Leading Brockport (1-0) was Miller with four goals and two assists, while sophomore attackman Jaxon Ophardt and senior midfielder Tyler Davis each added two goals. Dylan Ryan contributed one goal, and junior midfielder Isaac Kingsley and freshman Samuel Cedeno — who recorded his first varsity assist — each added one assist.
Sophomore Johnathan Pienio won 12 of 17 faceoffs (71%) at the dot. For Gates Chili (0-1), junior attackman Joshua Yakowitz led the Spartans with three goals, senior Gianni Salandy added two goals, and sophomore Noah Truax — scoring his first varsity goal — contributed two goals. Chandler Vogel chipped in one goal, sophomore Zach Fennell dished out four assists, Colin Mancuso added one assist, and sophomore defenseman Max Gause recorded his first varsity assist. Junior goalie Demar Williams reached 308 career saves on the night, stopping 10 of 19 shots (53%) over 48 minutes.
Gates Chili will travel to East United-Eastridge on Thursday, March 26 at 6:00 PM. Brockport will host Bloomfield-Honeoye on Thursday, April 9 at 6:00 PM.
