2025 Preview: Geneva
New Faces, Same Determination
As the Geneva Boys Lacrosse team prepares for the 2025 season, excitement is building. Following a strong 2024 season with a 13-5 record, the team aims to build on their success and make a deep run in the Class C playoffs.
2024 Season Recap
Last season, Geneva showcased its offensive firepower by averaging 11.7 goals per game and outscoring opponents 211-106. The team won ten games by a margin of five or more goals, demonstrating their dominance on the field. However, they struggled in close games, finishing with a 5-5 record in matches decided by five or fewer goals.
Key Departures
The team will need to fill the void left by seven graduating seniors, including key contributors. Jeremy Askin, an exceptional midfielder with 24 goals and 26 assists, was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American and earned numerous accolades. Paul Williams, a standout goalie with 144 saves and a 57.6% save percentage, was a cornerstone of the team's defense. Additionally, defensemen Leo Cohrs and Antonio Pesante both earned All-League honors for their defensive prowess.
Returning Stars
Despite these losses, Geneva has a talented roster of returning players ready to step up. Max Heieck, the Finger Lakes Attackman of the Year, scored 50 goals and provided 42 assists last season and is committed to playing for St. John Fisher in college. Ryland Dunham (2026) and Jack Dunham (2027) combined for 78 goals and 22 assists, showcasing their ability to find the back of the net. Nick Trickler, an All-League 3rd Team defender, will anchor the defense.
Team Outlook
Head Coach Jeff Dunham, entering his seventh season with a 44-30 record, is optimistic about the team's prospects and has brought on some more help for this season. “We are excited to bring former Geneva standout, Nick Askin, onto our coaching staff. He, along with his former SUNY Brockport teammate, Ben Hay, will bring a renewed level of energy and extensive knowledge into our program.”
With a strong core of returning players and a mix of experienced juniors and sophomores, Geneva is well-positioned to compete at a high level. The team returns 80% of their total goals and 72% of their total assists from last season, indicating a potent offense that will continue to be a force to reckon with. The combination of talent, experience, and leadership in the roster makes Geneva a formidable contender in the Class C division. Fans can look forward to an exciting season as the team aims to achieve their goals and make a deep playoff run.
