Players of the Week - Group 3

Player of the Week

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Connors and Ferris law firm are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

For "Group 3" we have four players who had standout performances in since the last set of awards.

Defensive Player of the Week

Logan CallahanAdam Birkbeck - Spencerport

Spencerport is 10-0 at this point in the season and a great part of their success lies with a good defense and a strong goalie. Senior goalie Adam Birkbeck has been on the varsity since his freshman year. In big games this year, he has stepped up: 80% in their 13-3 win over Irondequoit, 62% against Brighton, 62% in their 8-6 win over Pittsford.

Head Coach Bill Buttaro says: "Adam is a four-year starter and senior Captain for our program. Against Irondequoit, Brighton, and Pittsford he brought an energy to our defense that we needed in order to compete with those great programs. In our three biggest games so far he has stopped 68% of the shots he has faced! Big players make big plays in big games."

Defensive Player of the Week

Jack FaiolaConnor Fundis - Fairport

True defensemen don't seem to get a great deal of recognition but they often determine who will win game. Fairport senior defenseman Connor Fundis takes on the big assignment in big games. This season he has matched up against some top talent: Harrison Cross (Pittsford), Sam Cummings (Penfield), Cal Lambert (Victor), Evan Pashalidis (Thomas), Max Ettinghausen (McQuaid) and Sam Bennett (Canandaigua). The big, tall, and athletic team captain will be off to Albany next year.

Head Coach Mike Torrelli has lots to say: "His defensive lacrosse IQ and understanding of what we are trying to do is outstanding. Connor is coachable and driven to be the best lacrosse player he can be for our team. He demonstrates a tremendous commitment to refining and working on the skills and situational details that make for an outstanding long stick defender. He consistently leads by example, stays positive with his teammates, and does his best to help our less experienced players with their understanding and execution of what we are trying to accomplish as a defensive unit."

Offensive Player of the Week

Devon GerhardtDevon Gerhardt - Penn Yan

Penn Yan is undefeated (10-0) at this point and have scored 156 goals. Their strong offensive unit has several times this season posted three players in the top ten on the leader boards. The current team leader in assists and points is Devon Gerhardt. In big games for the Mustangs he scored six points against Pal-Mac, six points against Wayne and seven points against Aquinas.

Head Coach Brian Hobart says: "Devon has worked very hard to prepare for this season and is seeing the results of that preparation."

Offensive Player of the Week

Jackson McEnerney

Jackson McEnerney - Livonia-Avon

The youngest of an attack unit that has scored an average of 13 goals/game, Jackson McEnerney leads the team in goals with 43 and points with 60.  His ability to work with teammates Justin Skelly(35g-19a) and Derrick Wigley (24g-24a) makes it difficult for opponents to focus on any one player. Jackson has consistently been in the top 3 on the sectional leader board.

Coach John Sciera says: "Jackson is the youngest member of our attack. He has worked very hard on his skills to get to this level. Our attack has over 160 points between the three of them that makes us a very difficult team to defend."
