East Rochester won it's second game (Arc/Oly 8-7) and it was Pittsford over Victor (17-9) while McQuaid beat Haverling (14-8).

Schroeder 8 - Churchville-Chili 6

The book for Churchville-Chili: Ryan Yunker (2g), Scott Shamp (2g), Zach Yehl (1g), Jon Hemink (1g-3a), Goaltending: Jack Corcoran 7s/8ga (48 mins)

The book for Schroeder: Cody Consul (4g-3a), Alex Powell (2g-1a), Cody Henry (2g), Goaltending: Scott Tota 11s/6ga = 65% (48 mins).

special -- In one of the best games of the day, Schroeder held off a late Churchville-Chili advance to defeat the Saints 8-6. The Saints tied the score early in the fourth; however the Warriors quickly retook the lead and held off one more Churchville-Chili goal for the win.

Schroeder struck first when Cody Consul passed the ball to the open crease and found Cody Henry with 5:12 remaining in the first quarter. Just 0:19 later, Jon Hemink drove to the cage and found Ryan Yunker open on the crease for the goal. Consul, who contributed to seven out of eight Schroeder goals, assisted the second Schroeder goal when he dodged to the crease and found Alex Powell open after the slide. Junior midfielder Scott Shamp scored his first goal of the game after a pick from Trevor Hodgins helped him get open in front of the cage. With the score tied at 2-2 and 3:33 remaining in the first quarter, the Warriors stepped up and scored two more goals at 3:04 and 2:04.

schro_ccChurchville-Chili senior defenseman Dan Fingland knocked down a pass from the Saints and goalie Jack Corcoran picked up the loose ball and looked for the quick outlet pass, however, Consul intercepted the pass and drove in for an unassisted goal for the Warriors. One minute later, after a dead ball, Consul drove to the crease and found Powell open after the slide. In the first quarter both teams had a number of bad breaks. Both had trouble capitalizing on opportunities which resulted in the ball frequently changing hands. Due to the rainy weather, both teams had trouble on the slick grass field. The first quarter ended 4-2 with Schroeder leading.

Over the next twenty-one minutes the Warriors were held scoreless with Churchville-Chili controlling the pace of the game and the ball itself. Jon Hemink scored the only goal of the quarter during a flag down situation. Hemink took the ball from the midfield (where a flag was thrown for holding) and took the ball all the way to the crease and finished with a shot into the back of the net. Schroeder's goalie, Scott Tota, had seven saves in the second quarter alone including one set of three quick back-to-back saves within five seconds of each other. Schroeder, although scoreless, kept the Saints from gaining more than one goal and held the 4-3 lead going into halftime.

Both teams scored one goal in the third quarter and they were scored in nearly the same manner. Schroeder scored first at 5:02, followed by Churchville-Chili's goal at 2:57. In both case Consul (then Yunker) took the ball behind the cage and through a personal effort put the ball into goal. Both Yunker and Consul dodged three slides to make it around to the front of the cage for the goal. The score ended after three quarters 5-4 in favor of the Warriors. Overall the third quarter was much like the second with Churchville-Chili controlling the ball and keeping it away from the Warriors. Neither team challenged the goalies during the quarter nor did the Saints finish with quality shots after controlling the ball for minutes in a possession.

schro_ccIn the fourth quarter Hemink found Zach Yehl open on the outside during an extra-man opportunity and for the first time since eight minutes into the game the score was tied. The Warriors were not going to let go of the lead that easily. Only 0:12 after the Saints tied the score, Consul took the ball and drove straight in from the right side of the crease, diving and placing the ball in the upper far corner of the net past Corcoran. Schroeder kept up the pressure scoring less than a minute later when Henry added his second goal of the game after a bad deflection off a defensive player found the ball in the back of the cage. Consul added the final Schroeder goal of the game after a dead ball drive from behind the cage were some communication error had left Consul unguarded. With 4:41 remaining the Saints' Schamp scored the final goal after a picked give and go with Jon Hemink. Although the Saints kept up the pressure it was too little too late and the Warriors held on for the victory.

In the cage, Corcoran finished with seven saves for the Saints and Tota finished with 11 saves for the Warriors. At the face-off Pete Noto finished 9/12 for the Warriors. Noto led the Warriors with five ground balls; while Hemink led the Saints with six.

Throughout the entire game both teams had difficultly capitalizing on their opponents mistakes. Both teams had plenty of opportunities but due to the weather or a bad pass or a bad shot, they could not use the errors to their advantage. The game was close throughout its entirety and both teams demonstrated that they deserve to be in top echelon of Section Five.

Throughout the second and third quarters the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net. Between shots that missed the cage or hit Fairport's goalie (Blaze Riorden) in the chest, the Eagles could not get a ball between the pipes. The Fairport defense did a great job of forcing bad shots and keeping the Eagles on their heels. During this time the Fairport offense kept up their normal steady pace scoring three goals in each of the second and third quarters.

Brendan Saylor scored two with Derek DeJoe, Martin Manilla, Stephen Danylyshyn and Hays each adding one goal. Two of the Red Raider goals were also scored during extra-man offense.
