Cunningham and Bush Lead Gananda

Gananda defeated Pal-Mac 11-10 and held off the Red Raiders attempts to force overtime.  The Blue Panthers were led by seniors Brett Cunningham and Henry Bush who combined for 7 of the 11 goals.  Face off midfielder Evan Smith finished 11/20, including a key win late to keep the ball out of the Red Raiders hands.

Pal-Mac opened the scoring with a goal off the opening draw.  Junior Jake Galina scored the first of his 5g-2a only 0:13 into the contest.  Gananda fought back and score the next three goals.  After taking the lead at 2-1 with 9:06 left in the first quarter, the Blue Panthers never lost the lead.  Although Pal-Mac kept the game close, they never forced another tie.  Gananda kept up the early pressure and extended their lead to 5-2 with 2:10 left in the quarter.  The Red Raiders scored three of the next four to pull within a single goal at 6-5 with 0:24 left in the half.

The remainder of the game alternated scoring with Gananda pulling ahead by two and then Pal-Mac responding to put the game back to one goal apart.  The Blue Panther’s final goal was scored with 4:24 remaining.  Patrick Shanley (2g-2a) assisted Cunningham with 4:24 remaining to go up 11-9.  Pal-Mac scored unassisted with 0:48 remaining off a drive to cage by sophomore Evan Hurlbutt.  Smith won the ensuing face-off and got Gananda the ball.  The Blue Panthers drove to the cage, but Pal-Mac goalie Shaun Murphy came up with a big save and clear to give the Red Raiders one more attempt on offense.  Murphy recorded 19 saves.  With 0:24 remaining in regulation, the Red Raiders took one more shot and it was saved by Jason Good.  Good finished with 9 saves for the Blue Panthers.
