Leonardis Score Game Winner

Nick and Andrew Leonardi scored their first Varsity points in tonight`s 13-12 win for Greece Arcadia/Olympia against Brockport.  Nick`s first point of his career came earlier with an assist to Adrian Romero; however, his first goal was off Andrew`s first point with 2:37 left in regulation to give the Lightning a 1 point lead and secure the victory.

The Blue Devils only held the lead for less than one minute in the opening quarter.  Adam Tobey scored an unassisted goal with 9:17 on the clock.  Less than 60 seconds later, Romero scored his opening goal of the season.  As a junior, this is his third year on Varsity and has accumulated 40g-10a over the past three years.  After tying the game, the Lightning never trailed, although the Blue Devils tied the score four more times over the next 44 minutes.  The Lightning scored six out of eight goals in a row to increased their lead to 10-6 at its largest point.  In addition to Romero`s 3g, Matt McHale added 3g-1a and Zackary Serio added 1g-3a for the Lightning.  After falling to a four-point deficit, the Blue Devils fought back and scored five of the next six to tie the game at 11-11 with 9:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Greece`s Colin Boglione scored with 7:41 remaining off an assist from Serio to put the Lightning back on top.  They held that lead for four minutes before Tucker Sutphen tied the game for the final time with 3:58 on the clock.  The final goal of the game was the culmination of the Leonardi`s first game.

Nolan Maines (8) and Owen Manchester led in ground balls for the Blue Devils.  Manchester was also 17/29 at the face-off draw.  In the cage for Brockport, Calum Dunbar recorded eight saves.  For the Lightning, McHale led in ground balls with six and defensemen Matthew Peters and JP Martello each recorded three takes.  Nicholas Chilano played the entire game between the pipes and recorded 11 saves.
