Looking Back

It was a week filled with individual milestones across the region. Geneva's Ryland Dunham reached 150 career goals on Tuesday, while a wave of players including Brighton's Austin Flaum, HF-L's Jackson Coon, Rush-Henrietta's Zachary Winner, McQuaid's Domenic Giangreco, and HF-L's Nate Lathrop and James Sprague — all hit the 50-career goal mark at various points throughout the week. On the goalie side, Aquinas's Jake Gibson logged Penn Yan at Canandaiguahis 600th career save and Haverling's McLane Stermole recorded his 800th. Penfield's Brodie Joyce broke his program's all-time career assist record, while Geneva's Ryland and Jack Dunham each reached 50 career assists. Hunter Kurdziolek of Mynderse-Romulus was a standout performer, posting five goals in back-to-back games as his team earned its first win of the season.

On the team side, Pittsford remained the week's dominant force, improving to 9-0 with wins over Rush-Henrietta and Marcellus. Irondequoit delivered the most dramatic moment of the week, with Doug Velepec scoring in double overtime to edge McQuaid 9-8. McQuaid's John Burrows also came through in the clutch, scoring an overtime winner against Thomas and later posting five goals against Fayetteville-Manlius. Other highlights included Batavia-Notre Dame picking up its first win of the season and Canandaigua rallying with three fourth-quarter goals to edge Fairport. Penn Yan's Miles Ditzell led all individual scorers on Saturday with five goals in a dominant win over Ithaca.

SATURDAY - Saturday was defined by career milestones across the area. Bloomfield-Honeoye's Brayden Arber set a school record for career goals with 11 goals in an 18-3 win over Tonawanda. HF-L beat L-A-G 17-7 in a game that featured Marco Vengoechea's 100th career goal, Jackson Coon's 50th career assist and Jason Bennett's 400th career save. Hilton won in overtime at West Genesee 11-10 as Drew RH at PenfieldBrien reached his 50th career goal with an OT goal, seventh grader Nick Mateo Jr. hit 100 career faceoff wins in Geneva's 12-4 win over Mynderse-Romulus, and Walker Landschoot scored his 50th career goal in Midlakes' 19-4 win over Newark. Pittsford stayed perfect at 12-0 with a 15-8 win over Fayetteville-Manlius, McQuaid's John Burrows scored six goals in a 16-9 win over Niskayuna, Shane Coleman scored eight goals for Wayne in a 14-4 win over Amherst, and Penn Yan extended its winning streak to five with a 15-1 win over Tully.

FRIDAY - The best story of the day was Churchville-Chili rallying from 11-0 down to beat Rush-Henrietta 13-11, with Isaac Bailey going 19 for 26 on faceoffs and three players scoring three goals each. Brockport edged East United 10-9 in another tight finish, with Xzavier Madrigal reaching 100 career saves for East United. Penfield extended its winning streak to eight with a 14-9 win over Canandaigua, Spencerport's Zach Tortora scored five goals in a 9-3 win over Fairport as Luke Kaye hit 100 career faceoff wins, Brighton beat Aquinas 14-6 behind a balanced attack that included freshman Chase LaBudde's first career varsity goal, and Batavia-Notre Dame's Trey Rodriguez posted four goals and six assists in a 14-3 win over Gananda.

THURSDAY - Today's most notable comeback came from Geneva, which rallied from six goals down to beat L-A-G 8-6 on four goals and an assist from Ryland Dunham, while Will Schweitzer reached 100 career points for the Lakers. Bloomfield-Honeoye edged Mynderse-Romulus 13-12 in another close one, with four goals each from Braiden Schneider and Brennan Thomas. McQuaid beat Corning 9-6 behind three goals from Domenic Giangreco and five points from Aidan O'Brien, Midlakes got four goals each from Brendan Baldwin and Carter Casper in a 14-7 win over Marcus Whitman, and Fairport at AquinasWaterloo's Dylan Acquilano reached 200 career saves in a loss at Watkins Glen.

WEDNESDAY - The day's biggest story was Pittsford's last-second 13-12 win over Victor, with Grant Lewis scoring with eight seconds left to keep the Panthers perfect at 11-0, a game that also featured Cole Goetz's 50th career assist, Eli Ricci's 50th career goal and Bear Wehrheim's 200th career save. Elsewhere, Grady Goodberlet reached 200 career goals with a six-goal night in HF-L's 16-0 win over Gates Chili, Irondequoit's Colin Landrigan reached 100 career saves in a 14-3 win over Churchville-Chili that also saw Matt Long and TJ Mayer score their first career varsity goals, and Brighton's Tim Tourangeau reached 50 career assists in a 15-2 win over Schroeder while Schroeder's Van Bolton hit 300 career saves.

TUESDAY -  Tuesday featured a string of career milestones, with Pal-Mac's Max Hill scoring his 100th career goal in a 19-8 win over Marcus Whitman, Midlakes' Nate Lathrop reaching 50 career assists in a 17-2 win over Waterloo, L-A-G's Rider VanZandt hitting 300 career faceoff wins while scoring five goals in an 11-8 win over Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Penn Yan's Braden Fingar reaching 100 career assists in a 10-9 win at Canandaigua. Newark also picked up its first win of the season, topping Gananda 17-5, and Wayne rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Geneva 8-7.

Players of the week were also announced. Honored were senior HFL midfielder Marco Venoecha and sophomore face off midfielder Eli Ricci  from Victor.

MONDAY - Monday's action featured a wave of Fairport at Aquinasfirst career varsity scores, headlined by Midlakes' win over Gananda in which five different players scored their first career varsity goal. Brockport's 19-4 win over Batavia-Notre Dame also saw three first career scores from Anthony Lana, Maddux Williams and Nikolas Poswinski, while Johnathan Pienio reached 100 career faceoff wins. Penfield edged Thomas 11-9 in the night's closest game, with Griffin Banister scoring four goals to extend the Patriots' winning streak to six, and Orchard Park used a six-goal run to pull away from Irondequoit 14-6.

Looking Ahead

There are lots of games this week, with the largest number on Tuesday (14). Many are eague games and many are expected to result in mismatches this week. Let's hope there are exciting surprises. Noteworthy games include:

On Monday there are two games with Pal-Mac at L-A-G and Batavia-ND at Tonawanda

On Tuesday games include Gananda at Mynderse-Romulus, Fairport at AquinaslGeneva at B-H, Midlakes at Wayne, C-C at CA, and Penfield at Hilton.

On Wednesday Haverling is at Aquinas.

On Thursday there are thirteen games which include Thomas at C-C, HFL at Penn Yan, Brockport at Greece Storm, Hilton at Irondequoit, L-A-G at Midlakes, and Orchard Park at McQuaid.

On Friday the three games scheduled are Gates and Batavia-ND, Gananda at Haverling and East United-Eastridge at Syracuse City.

On Saturday the week ends with a dozen games including JD at Pittsford, Brockport at Marcus Whitman, Brighton at Irondequoit, Greece at Mynderse-Romulus, Hamburg at Penn Yan, Victor at JD and Canandaigua at Orchard Park.
