NYS Section VTeams No Longer Playing

There are a number of teams that have either dropped the boys program or combined with other teams to form a new team.

Since player records are earned while playing for a specific team, each time teams are combined they create a new team record. For example, Batavia played as a single team and then joined with Attica to form a new team and then combined with both Avon and Notre Dame to form another new team, each with their own identify and records.

Below are links to information from the teams that are no longer active.

Avon

Avon sponsored a Varsity team from 2013 to 2017, playing as a GRALL team and as a Class C and, in 2017 as a Class D team. Their final record was 14-62. Vince McKeown was the first Varsity Head Coach for the Braves. After one year, Erik Schneider was the coach for three years, although the 2015 season was cancelled in May when, after injuries, there were not enough players. Paul Cole was the Head Coach for the 2017 season and in 2018 the team was combined with Livonia and Paul Cole was the co-coach with Livonia Head Coach, Brett Wood.

Other Teams

Other teams that have come and gone include All High School (Rochester), Cardinal Mooney, Corning East, Corning West, East High, Franklin, HAC, Jefferson, Marshall and West High.

Bloomfield has a single team from in late 1980s and into the 1990s. After an absence they reappeared with Honeoye in 2008. Among the early coaches were Kevin Crowell, Mike Reho and Mark Muller.

A number of teams, still playing today, had a number of combinations, but records for those teams are unavailable or inconsistent. Webster, for example, started out as the Ridgemen with Bill Guerrera as the Head Coach in 1965. Peter Burkhardt, Mark Sweeney and Fritz Killian were all coaches until Fritz started the Schroeder team in 2002 and Rob Ruller started the team at Thomas in 2003.

In a similar fashion, Rush-Henrietta started as a single team with Jim Cox and Dave Armstrong in 1969. Mike Welch and Dick Young also coached at R-H before the team split into a team for Sperry (coached by Dick Young) and a team at Roth (Coached by Jim Cox). There was only one high school again in 1986 and Jim Cox through 1997. Jack Beaney had the 1998 team and then Jeff King took over in 1999. Mike Gotko was the Head Coach from 2001 to 2007 and then Jim DeWall started as Head Coach in 2008, holding the post until Tom MacMillan took over for the 2018 season.
