Wayne 9 - Geneva 8
Wayne scored five of the first six goals and held off a late push by Geneva to defeat the Panthers 9-8. The Panthers scored the first goal with Kyle Cosentino scoring unassisted. Four minutes later Wayne scored their first goal. Jon Ecker assisted Jake Moss with 5:13 remaining in the opening quarter. The Screaming Eagles scored two more goals in less than one minute with John Bowman and Andrew Jenkins both scoring unassisted. The first quarter ended with Wayne leading 3-1.
Wayne also scored the first two goals of the second quarter. Jenkins assisted John Bowman back to back only 0:07 apart to give the Screaming Eagles a 5-1 lead in the second quarter. Geneva`s Jason Feinberg scored the first two of his three goals during the contest to finish out the second quarter. The Screaming Eagles still held a two goal lead going into halftime.
Geneva kept their momentum going and scored two goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter. Feinberg added his third during a man-up attempt (assisted by Michael DeVaney) and then Eddie Eddington scored unassisted to tie the game with 10:38 remaining. Four minutes later Wayne scored the first in a three goal run with Bowman scoring off a feed from Cody Matteson. The Screaming Eagles added two more before the quarter ended to regain their three goal lead.
The final quarter began with two goals be Geneva, both unassisted. Hunter Seaward and Eddington scored for the Panthers. The tying goal came due to a defensive snafu. The Panthers were attributed with a Team Goal with 4:55 remaining to tie the game. One minute later the Screaming Eagles took the lead for the final time. Tim Oddi scored with an assist from Bowman to secure the win.
Wayne goalie Justin Townsend finished with 6s/7ga for the Screaming Eagles. Devon Tunley was in the cage for the team goal. Townsend and Austin Leckinger led in ground balls with five. Attackman Andrew Jenkins and midfielder Cody Matteson finished with four ground balls each. For the Panthers, Jacob Drennan finished at 50% with 9s/9ga.
