Penfield Opens Season with Win Behind Joyce's Record Night

Penfield opened its Monroe County D-1 season with a 17-6 win over Fairport on Tuesday, highlighted by an impressive performance from senior attackman Brodie Joyce. Joyce scored eight goals and added one assist to break Penfield's 20-year scoring record (peviously held by Kelly McKenna), pushing his career point total to 201 while also reaching 103 career goals. Penfield put together runs of five and seven consecutive goals to build an insurmountable lead.

Also leading Penfield (1-0) was junior attackman Griffin Banister who added three goals and two assists and junior attackman Cole Bellerose who contributed one goal and two assists. Senior Reid Rivero scored his first career varsity goal, and Tyler Pavone, Harrison Easton, Ronan Boyle, and Jack Mulvehill each added one goal. Miller won 14 of 21 faceoffs (67%) while Junior Nate Roche stopped two of three shots (67%) over nine minutes in goal.

For Fairport (0-1), Cameron Duffy led the Red Raiders with two goals. Carter Mitchell, Paddy Cougevan, Matt Haugh, and CJ Trumble each scored one goal — all first career varsity goals for each player.

Penfield will travel to Victor on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 PM. Fairport will travel to Spencerport on Thursday, March 26 at 6:15 PM.
