Storm Lacrosse: Building on Last Season

As the Greece Storm Boys Lacrosse team gears up for the upcoming season, there's a palpable sense of anticipation and optimism in the air. Coming off an 8-9 record last year, the team has set their sights on improving their performance and making a deeper run in the playoffs.

Last Season Recap

The Greece Storm showed flashes of brilliance last season, particularly in games where they won by 5 or more goals. However, the team also faced challenges, losing seven games by 5 or more goals and several close contests as well. Key players like Jonathan Bucciarelli, Aiden Early, and Andrew Hill, all of whom have graduated, were instrumental in the team's performance. Bucciarelli, in particular, was a standout goalie, earning numerous accolades including US Lacrosse All-American and SportsFive.NET Defensive Player of the Year.

Key Departures

The team will miss the presence of their graduated seniors, many of whom were award winners and pivotal to last year's success. Jonathan Bucciarelli, who recorded 232 saves and had a 65.5% save percentage, was named US Lacrosse All-American and Monroe County (d1) Player of the Year. Greece StormAndrew Hill, who tallied 18 goals and 12 assists, was an All-League 2nd Team Midfielder. Brady Nugent, a key defender, earned All-League 1st Team Defense honors, while Jake Patrei, who contributed both offensively and defensively, was recognized as an All-League 2nd Team SSDM Attackman.

Returning Talent

Among the returning players, several earned accolades last season and are expected to lead the team this year. Evan Baldwin, a junior LSM, was named to the All-League 2nd Team LSM Midfield. Carter Fabian, a senior midfielder, earned All-League Honorable Mention with 15 goals and 5 assists. James Maccallini, a junior attackman, received All-League Honorable Mention with 28 goals and 7 assists. Eric Odell, a 2026 midfielder/faceoff specialist, also earned All-League Honorable Mention had a faceoff record of 154 wins and 95 losses. These players, along with a core group of experienced juniors and sophomores, will be crucial in navigating a challenging schedule.

Head Coach Shane Cole

Greece StormThe Storm's head coach, Shane Cole, is entering his sixth season at the helm. Coach Cole brings experience and determination to the team. Having played high school lacrosse at Rush-Henrietta, he understands the local lacrosse scene and is committed to developing his players' skills and teamwork. Under his guidance, the team is focused on building on last year's experiences and coming out stronger this season.

Offensive and Defensive Goals

Offensively, the team will aim to increase their total goals, having scored 104 last season with an average of 6.1 goals per game. Defensively, there's room for improvement, as the team allowed 138 goals with an average of 8.1 goals against per game. With a mix of seasoned veterans and young talent, the Storm is well-positioned to make strides in both areas.
