Fairport Looking for three in a row

Fairport 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

In the abbreviated 2021 season, the Red Raiders took the top seed in Class A with an 8-5 record and with only seven teams in the Class A bracket they had a bye in the first round. They beat a greatly improved Hilton, 11-6 in the semifinals, and then beat Pittsford in overtime for their tenth championship and second in a row.

FairportLast year seniors Rob Crowley (26g-5a), Kole Stuver (22g-23a), and Trey Terzo (21g-10a) accounted for 42% of the offense. Crowley was the Class A Tournament MVP in 2019. Stuver made first team all-league along with defenseman Connor Fundis (Albany).

The graduates left some players to carry on for the 2022 campaign. Back as faceoff specialist is Joey Giggie, a four year varsity player, who won 69% of his draws last year including the last one of the season that eventually gave Jackson Monte the game-winning championship goal. Giggie will play football at Buffalo next year. Monte is a junior who ended last season with 25g-20a  was the Class A Tournament MVP in 2021 and was the team leader in points. In defense is Josh Knapp, a three year varsity player who will play at Delaware next year. He was another first team all-league pick last year and can play both LSM and close defense. In the goal is McLean Ralston, who has also been on the varsity for three years and was also a first team all-league player last year. He will be playing at Nazareth next year. In the midfield are seniors Jake Koonmen, with two years at varsity, Billy Meagher, a three-year player and Kyle Gould who will also see some time in the attack.

Coach Mike Torrelli is looking forward to a return to the regular season. "This year our goal is to play our BEST lacrosse on the last day we are together. Leadership will be the key to our success in 2022. We have a lot of NEW faces in 2022 [and we will need] to play as a team. Each player will need to understand their role and do their job to the best of their abilities."

The Red Raiders open the season hosting St. Joseph on March 31st. Other out of league games include Bishop Kearney, Orchard Park and McQuaid Jesuit. Many coaches will be watching the game at Pittsford on April 5th as a preview of the championship game later in the season.  Both Hilton (on 4/14) and McQuaid (on 5/21) are Class A teams that the Red Raiders could play more than once this year.
