Canandaigua Over Victor in last Five Minutes

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: Two games were played on Memorial Day. Penfield and Canandaigua were the winners.

Penfield at IrondequoitPenfield scored six goals in the third quarter on their way to an 11-8 win at Irondequoit. The Patriots scored first and held the lead throughout the game, leading by as much as five goals, but the Eagles kept trying to chip away, getting as close as two goals. Junior attackman Alec Constable had 4g-1a and Chris Smith had 3g-1a while Sam Schlifke won 15/23 draws for the Patriots. Penfield goalie Seamus Hand recorded 12s/8ga (60%). Sophomore attackman Aidan Greco led the Eagles in scoring with 4g. Ronnie Garrow added 3a for Irondequoit. [BOX SCORE] More images are available in the gallery.

It was another low-scoring defense-oriented game at Canandaigua where two goals in the last five minutes gave the Braves a 7-5 win over Victor at home. Canandaigua was first to score when Dom Comella scored on a feed from Jaxon Grant. Just before the end of the quarter, Cal Lambert received an interior feed from Victor at CanandaiguaJack Heredeen to tie the game at 1-1, but that did not last long as Grant received a wing pass from Matt Belles for the go-ahead goal with twenty-two seconds left in the quarter.

Victor tied the game for the second time early in the second quarter on a side-arm blast from Lambert who received the ball from Alex Seiler. The Braves came back two minutes later on a sweep from the left by Spin Blazak to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. The teams were tied again at 3-3 when Seiler received a wing pass from Lambert. The tie lasted twenty seconds as Victor`s Pax Marshall scored right from the faceoff on a pass from Sam Gotham to give the Blue Devils a 4-3 lead. Jaxon Grant sent the Braves to the halftime break tied at 4-4 with a strong sidearm shot from top left with 0:34 on the clock.

It was more of the same in the third quarter. Half-way through the  quarter Canandaigua took a 5-4 lead on a drive from the left wing by Grant and a few minutes later Victor tied the game on a drive from the left wing and a pass from Gotham to Thomas Gravino and the quarter ended in a 5-5 tie.

Victor at CanandaiguaThe ball moved up and down the field with long stick doing most of the heavy lifting and at 5:40 Sam Bennett scored the go-ahead goal after driving from behind the cage. Victor had a couple of chances but between the aggressive Canandaigua defense and some key saves by goalie Jack Faiola who made 7s/5ga (58%), the Blue Devils ran out of time. On the other end of the field, Victor goalie Zach Pavia also had a great day, making some big saves and ending with 9s/7ga (56%). Canandaigua, now 12-1 has two more games in the regular season, including the final one on Saturday when they play Penn Yan. Victor (10-1) joins a list of four teams with a single loss, leaving Penn Yan the only undefeated team left in the section. [BOX SCORE] More images are available in the gallery.
