Brockport Scores Last Four Including Game Winner in OT
Brockport scored the last four goals of the game, including the game winner in overtime. Matt Heyden scored his fourth of the game only 0:10 into the first overtime period. Gates-Chili scored early and took strong leads in both the first and third quarters, but could not hold off the late push by the Blue Devils.
Kyle Fingar scored the game opener for the Spartans off a feed from Kyle Krystan. Krystan and Fingar finished with a combined 5g-5a and at least one was part of all but a single goal. Brockport responded with two goals to take their only lead of regulation. Heyden and Jake Davies scored for Brockport. They held their lead for 1:19 before Krystan scored his first (off a feed from Fingar). The Spartans added two more before the end of the quarter and led 4-2 after 12 minutes.
In the second, Brockport started off with two goals to tie the game for the third time. The tie was held into halftime with the Blue Devil defense keeping the Spartans off the board for 22 minutes. The opening goal of the second half was not scored until 3:43 left in the third with Zane Tuller scoring unassisted for Gates. The Spartans added another two to take a three goal lead (7-4) going into the final 12 minutes.
The teams started off alternating goals before Brockport began their four goal run. Dylan Vergari scored the game tying goal to force overtime with 1:01 left on the clock.
