Pittsford dodged the bullet this afternoon with an double overtime win against a determined Webster Thomas. Fairport and Penn Yan, the only undefeated teams left in the Section won their games. Aquinas won a close one against McQuaid Jesuit (7-6) in GRALL action. Spencerport beat Hilton 13-11. Geneva beat Pal-Mac 7-5 and Waterloo pulled out a close one (4-3) against Mynderse. There were 18 games in the Section today.

Fairport 9 - Penfield 6

  --  The first three quarters were an epic battle between Fairport and Penfield. The Red Raiders stepped it up in the fourth quarter with two extra man goals to take the permanent lead, 9-6. The game was tied at every goal through 5-5. It was not until the fourth quarter that Fairport took a two goal lead.

Fairport scored first with an unassisted goal from Pat VanBortle. VanBortle finished with 2g-1a for the Red Raiders. Penfield tied the score 0:22 later with an unassisted goal from Andrew Schoeneck. Fairport's Jay Vakiener took the lead again with an unassisted goal. He finished with 2g-2a. This time it took two minutes for Penfield to tie the game. Jacob Aldrich scored (unassisted) for the Patriots. Vakiener scored his second goal 0:32 later to keep the Red Raiders ahead. Attackman Andrew Huntington tied the game for the third time with yet another unassisted goal for Penfield. The final goal of the first quarter was scored by VanBortle. Fairport led 4-3 after the first quarter.

Fairport held the lead for six minutes. Four minutes into the second quarter, Jonathan Spaan scored unassisted to tie the game at 4-4. Fairport's Dan McAvoy scored the first of his two goals during a man-up attempt. The final goal of the first half was scored by Schoeneck. The score was tied 5-5 at halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams remained scoreless. Fairport took 10 shots with four saves for Penfield's Keith Keehn. Keehn finished with 10 saves (53%). Penfield finished the quarter with five shots and three saves from Fairport's Blaze Riorden. Riorden finished with 10 saves (63%).

The fourth quarter made all the difference. Fairport scored the first three goals of the quarter to secure their win. McAvoy scored his second goal of the game with an assist from Vakiener to start the quarter. A minute and a half later Brian Martin scored his only goal of the game to give Fairport a two goal lead for the first time. Exactly one minute later Fairport had a three goal lead. Kyle Sterzin scored with an assist from VanBortle. Both McAvoy's and VanBortle's goals were scored during man-up attempts for the Red Raiders. Penfield scored the penultimate goal with an unassisted goal from Matt Bilak. Sterzin scored his second goal with an assist from defenseman Joe Arcarese to finish the game with Fairport up 9-6.

Penfield's Connor Russell finished 11/18 (61%) at the draw. He also finished with four ground balls. Huntington, LSM Justin Rehm and defenseman Charlie Cummins each finished with five ground balls for the Patriots. Defenseman Keith Mierzwa finished with six ground balls to lead the Red Raiders. Arcarese finished with five and face off man Shane Stickle finished with four.

Junior attackman Ryan Maciejewski (2g-3a) and eighth grade attackman Sean Emerson (1g-1a) also scored for the Mustangs. Face off man Brandon Grace finished 7/9 (78%) for the Mustangs. Defensemen Kevin Kerrick and James Burdette finished with five ground balls each to lead Penn Yan. In the cage for Penn Yan, Brandon Maciejewski finished with four recorded saves. Matt Spoor, who played the final ten minutes, recorded one save.

For Haverling, Bruce Rinker and Trevor Lang scored. Lang finished with three shots and eleven ground balls for the Rams. Midfielder Jeff Chapman also finished with three shots and had five ground balls. In the cage, Andrew Clark finished with 12 saves.

  --    In an exciting double overtime victory, Pittsford maintained their in section undefeated season going with a 10-9 win over Webster Thomas. The only loss for the Panthers (9-1) this season came from perennial favorite West Genesee (9-6) in their second game of the season. To assure their win, junior attackman Albie DiPasquale scored with a drive from the left side of the crease to score with 3:18 remaining in the second overtime period. DiPasquale led the Panthers' offense with 4g-3a.

DiPasquale also scored the first goal for the Panthers. He came from around the back of the cage and cut back to finish into the back of the net. One minute later and DiPasquale assisted Stephen Quinzi as he was cutting to the crease. The third Panther goal was scored during man-up. Corey Parke scored with a feed from behind the cage from DiPasquale. Pittsford led 3-0 only 3:24 into the game. Thomas had yet to have an offensive possession. After the third goal, Alex Gulisano was switched into the cage for Thomas. Gulisano finished with 11 saves (61%) for the Titans. Once Thomas got an offensive possession they took advantage of it. Their first goal was scored on a fast-break with John Zawacki scoring from an assist from Jake Giudice. On the ensuring face off, Thomas won the draw and scored on another fast break between the same pairing. To tie the game, Kevin Hill fed the ball to Troy Crevier from behind the cage. With 2:56 remaining in the first quarter the score was tied for the first of five times. Pittsford defenseman Cameron Pincus scored the next goal from a face off fast break. The Panthers led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter both teams added a single goal. Pittsford scored first with an unassisted goal by Corey Parke. Parke attempted to feed the crease, however, the attackman's stick was checked down and the ball continued into the goal. Thomas tied the game with a drive from behind the cage by Zawacki. Pittsford continued their one goal lead into halftime, 5-4.

In the third quarter Thomas tied the game twice. Pittsford scored the first goal with a fast break goal from Quinzi, assisted by DiPasquale. Pittsford held the two goal lead for the next seven minutes until the Titans' Giudice scored. Eighteen seconds later the Titans tied the game for the second time. Zawacki drove from behind the cage for Thomas. The score was tied 6-6. Pittsford took back the lead 90 second later with yet another DiPasquale goal. Thomas held the ball late into the third quarter and with time expiring Giudice scored with a drive from behind the cage. The third quarter ended with the score tied 7-7.

Thomas took their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter with a goal from Zawacki. He drove down the left alley and turned back for the goal. Pittsford tied the game with a drive from behind by Quinzi with 7:50 remaining in regulation. Thomas scored on the ensuing face off with yet another fast break. Giudice took the ball towards the crease and then fed it to Joe Mikiciuk at the last second. Mikiciuk was wide open on the far side and easily finished into the back of the net. Less than a minute later Pittsford had tied the game for the fifth and final time. DiPasquale scored with a drive from behind the age with 6:31 remaining in the quarter.

Both teams had attempts in the second half of the final quarter but neither could convert into a goal. Thomas had two shots after their goal with Kevin Hill putting one on cage and one missing the cage. Pittsford also had two shots after their goal with both Parke and DiPasquale missing the cage. The game continued into the first overtime period. Thomas won the face off and got the first crack at the goal. Giudice took the first shot with Cahal Moulton coming up with a big save. Pittsford failed the clear with 3:19 remaining and Thomas had a second shot. Midfielder Nick Schuman took the shot for Thomas, however, Moulton came up big again. This time Pittsford successfully cleared the ball. They took five shots in the first overtime but only two were on cage. Both shots on cage looked like they were going to be goals, but Gulisano came up big between the pipes to keep Thomas in the game. With less than a minute in the first overtime, Thomas was assessed two penalties. The Panthers had 32 seconds of double man up but could not convert. Thomas finished with possession of the ball at the end of the first overtime period and began the second overtime with the ball.

Pittsford took advantage of a bad pass. After a time out they ended up with the ball at the midfield line. The Panthers then came down and took their shots at the cage. The first shot was taken by Parke and was wide. DiPasquale started with the ball and finished with it in the back of the net to win the game.

Matt Barbaccia took the majority of the face offs for Pittsford and finished 11/21 (52%). He also finished with five ground balls. Pincus, Quinzi, Tyler Aycock and Ben Overslaugh also finished with five ground balls each. Kyle Lake started in the cage for Pittsford and recorded two saves before he sustained an injury in the second quarter. Moulton finished the game and made five saves (50%).

For Thomas, Joe Stacy finished 65% at the face off (11/17). He also led in ground balls with eight. Attackman John Hill and midfielder Crevier finished with three ground balls each for Thomas. Alex Gulisano played for 49 mins in the Titan's cage and made 11s/7ga.

  --  Aquinas held off the late advances of McQuaid Jesuit to secure their 7-6 win. The Little Irish were leading 6-3 before the Knights scored three unanswered goals to tie the game with 1:17 remaining in regulation. Aquinas's Pete DiLaura scored with 0:05 remaining off an assist from Jake Vogl to secure the win. DiLaura finished with 1g-1a for the Little Irish.

McQuaid scored the first goal when Joe Hayes scored, assisted by Kacin Zuhlke. Aquinas scored the next three, two in the first quarter and the third in the second quarter. Billy Lombardi (1g-1a) scored the first goal unassisted. Joe Snook (4g) scored the next two goals, both unassisted, to give Aquinas the 3-1 lead with 7:13 remaining in the first half. McQuaid added one more goal before halftime to keep the game within a single goal.

The first goal of the third quarter was also scored by the Knights. Joe Hanna scored with an assist from Jake Merkel to tie the game at 3-3 only 0:44 into the third quarter. Aquinas then scored three straight to take their largest lead of the game. Snook scored two and Alex Bianchi scored the third. Lombardi, Vogl and DiLaura each added an assist on the goals. With 5:33 remaining in the third quarter, Aquinas led by three. Duncan Ayer scored three straight goals, spanning 13 minutes to keep the Knights in the game. He added one in the third to end the quarter with Aquinas up 6-4. His next two goals tied the game before DiLaura scored to win the game near the buzzer.

Aquinas won 75% of the face offs with Lombardi and DiLaura both contributing. Lombardi finished 11/14 and DiLaura finished 1/2. Vogl, Lombardi and midfielder Jamison Whitfield each had five ground balls for the Little Irish. In the cage, Erich Wischmeyer finished with 11 saves (65%).   --  In a game that was closer than the score indicates, Churchville-Chili defeated Eastridge 13-8. The Saints added four goals in the final 2:04 to help secure their win. Eastridge had taken the game within a single goal with 2:24 remaining in regulation. The Lancers played strong and nearly came back to defeat Churchville-Chili.

Eastridge led the game after the first quarter. Ethan Printy (3g) and Chris Giruzzi (3g) each scored one in the opening quarter. The only goal from Churchville-Chili was scored by Kevin O'Donnell during a man-up situation for the Saints. In the second quarter, Churchville-Chili tied the score with a goal from Trevor Hodgins. Hodgins finished 3g-2a for the Saints. Eastridge then added two more goals to take another lead. Churchville-Chili got one goal back with 0:22 remaining in the first half when defenseman Nick Bruno assisted Aaron Buck. Eastridge still led 4-3 at halftime.

Churchville-Chili played much better in the second half. They scored the first two goals of the quarter to retake the lead. Hodgins and O'Donnell each added a goal. Printy tied the game for the Lancers with 5:35 remaining. Churchville-Chili kept up their pressure and added three more goals before time expired in the quarter. Ryan Cosgrove, Nolan Jessop and O'Donnell each scored in the final 2:34. O'Donnell's goal was scored as time expired in the quarter.

In the fourth Eastridge scored three of the first four to bring the game within one. However, Churchville-Chili finished out strong and secured the victory.

Churchville-Chili controlled the face off draw. Hodgins finished 8/12 and O'Donnell finished 6/10. Hodgins led in ground balls with 11 for the Saints. Bonafede finished with seven and O'Donnell finished with five. Between the pipes, Jack Corcoran finished with 9 saves (53%). For the Lancers, Mike DeSantis finished with a team leading five ground balls. In the cage, TJ Ennis finished with nine saves.

  --  After a delayed start, Canandaigua defeated Brighton 10-3. The game, which was scheduled to start at 8:00 PM, did not start until 9:15. Despite the late start, the Braves were ready to play. They finished the first quarter with 13 shots, nine on cage and four goals. They held the Barons scoreless and took a 4-0 lead. Leading in scoring was freshman attackman Connor Hulme with 3g. Senior midfielders Matt Scharr and Nick Como both finished with 2g-1a. In the cage, Michael Cuciti finished with eight saves. Anthony Laudisi finished the final four minutes of the game and recorded one save.

One of the biggest problems for the Barons was penalties. Brighton finished the game with nine minutes of penalties. Canandaigua finished with zero penalties. Brighton was led in scoring by junior midfielder Vinny Rockwell with 1g-1a. In the cage, Tom Hilling finished with 14 saves.

Defenseman Josh Reed finished with five ground balls to lead Webster. Between the pipes, Willie Klan finished with nine saves (69%).

For R-H, Chauncey Scissum led with 1g-1a. Midfielder Jordan Messimer finished 64% at the draw going 9/14. He also led in the ground ball count for the Royal Comets with eight. In the cage, McKenzie Spooner finished with nine saves.

Spencerport 13 - Hilton 11

  --  Spencerport scored five of the last seven goals to secure their 13-11 win over Hilton. The game was close until the fourth quarter when the Rangers had a series of four unanswered goals. The Rangers started the game with the first goal 1:09 into play. The goal was scored by Matt Kaser and assisted by Ben Tribunella. Kaser finished with 6g-2a for the Rangers.

Hilton tied the game with a goal from Jake Montgomery. The Rangers retook the lead with a goal from Jeff Nitti, assisted by Kaser. Hilton tied the game again with a man-up goal from Giordano that was assisted by face off man Harald Juergens. Juergens finished 62% at the draw going 16/26. The first quarter ended with the score tied 2-2.

Hilton scored the opening goal of the second quarter to take their first lead. Montgomery scored his second goal 92 seconds into the quarter. Derek Richards assisted the goal for the Cadets. Spencerport scored the next three goals to take their first two goal lead of the game. Kaser added two and assisted the third. Tribunella scored the third for the Rangers. Hilton finished out the quarter with another goal to keep the game within a single goal.

In the third quarter, after a series of back and forth goals, Hilton tied the game with 9:02 remaining. Juergens scored with an assist from Giordano to tie the game at 6-6. Spencerport scored 1:06 later with an unassisted goal from Nitti. Hilton came back with two more goals to take the lead back. Montgomery and Juergens scored for the Cadets. The teams again traded goals. With 1:59 remaining in the third quarter Hilton was leading by a single goal. It was the last time that they led. Kaser scored with 0:15 remaining to tie the game at 9-9 going into the final quarter.

Spencerport scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to take the 12-9 lead. Hilton tried to come back scoring two more. With 3:13 remaining in the game Hilton was within a single goal. Spencerport's Zach Goodsell scored the final goal of the game to give the Rangers a two goal lead with 1:38 remaining. The Rangers sat on the ball and ran out the time for the victory.

Spencerport's Seth Miller led in ground balls with seven. Midfielder Levi Basynnski finished with six. In the cage for Spencerport, Tyler Schweikert finished with 15 saves (58%).   --  Irondequoit defeated Victor 12-6 this afternoon. The Eagles scored the first five goals of the contest to lead 5-0 after the first quarter. They also led 11-3 after three quarters before putting in their reserves. Irondequoit had nine different players make their offensive scorebook. Leading the charge were senior Gunnar Miller (4g) and Connor Enright (3g-1a). In the cage, Eric Fischer finished with 10 saves. Alex Shoemaker recorded three saves in the final quarter.

  --  Wayne played Newark for the second time this season, looking to avenge a loss they suffered at Newark earlier in the season. The Eagles were successful with a 6-3 victory. Wayne had a balanced attack with five players making the scorebook with six goals. Sophomores Tim Oddi (2g), Andrew Jenkins (2a), and Cody Matteson (2g) led the offense. A special kudo went to Matteson for his first points of the season. Nick Graziose and Josh Bowman each added a goal for the Eagles. Wayne's defense, led by Tom Harden, showed their skill by winning the ground ball battle (30-22) and shutting out Newark in the second and fourth quarters. Goalie Justin Townsend played the entire game and recorded 5 saves. This is Wayne’s second win of the season and they will face Waterloo on Thursday.

Newark's players contributed to the low scoring game with four offensive players adding points: Omar Jaohar (1g), Anthony Manthorne (1g-1a), Kyle Power (2a), and Kevin Tack (1g). Goalie Dominic Camblin played the entire game and recorded 5s/6ga. Newark will play a 5:00 away game at Midlakes on Thursday.

  --  Geneva used three unanswered goals in the second quarter to secure their 7-5 win over Pal-Mac. The Panthers held the Red Raiders scoreless in the second quarter. Both teams added a single goal in the third and fourth quarters. In the reports from both coaches it is noted that the goalies played a big role in the game tonight. Geneva's Derek Grillone finished with 14 saves for the Panthers. Pal-Mac's Cody Rogers also finished with 14 saves.   --  Waterloo won a close game against Mynderse. In the low scoring game, the Indians won 4-3. Waterloo came out swinging and scored the first two goals of the contest. Each of the Indian's four goals was assisted by attackman Tim Wright. Tim Wright assisted Mike Wright for the opening goal only 2:04 into the contest. Seven minutes later Wright assisted Zarrien Sloan to take the 2-0 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Mynderse scored their first goal. Casey Irland scored the opening goal for the Blue Devils. The score was 2-1 at halftime. Mynderse continued to keep the Indians scoreless and the score was 2-2 going into the final quarter.

Waterloo scored first in the fourth quarter when Brenn Solomon scoring with 9:04 remaining. Five minutes later Mynderse tied the score again. Aaron Peterman scored to tie the game with 4:45 remaining. The winning goal was scored 36 seconds later when Wright assisted attackman Dominick Sindoni. In the cage for Waterloo, Josh Bailey finished with 10 saves. For Mynderse, Tim Trickler finished with nine saves.
