Players of the Year Announced

Three end of the year awards were announced at the conclusion on the Class A game at St. John Fisher College.

Sportsman of the Year:


The SportsFive - Mike Barnard Sportsman of the Year is senior attackman Zack Scheetz of Canandaigua.
  
A person of great character and a team leader, is example of putting the team first demonstrates his understanding of what it means to be a sportsman. After graduation from Canandaigua Academy, Zack will continue his education at Loyola College.

Offensive Player of the Year:

The SportsFive -  Graphtex Offensive player of the Year is senior midfielder and face off specialist Kelly McKenna of Penfield.
  
An extraordinary and "complete" midfielder, Kelly's many accolades are common knowledge among Section Five lacrosse fans. He has been an important part of a very successful Penfield team over several years. As comfortable on defense as he is on offense, Kelly is the type of player that a coach just doesn't want to take off the field. After graduation from Penfield, Kelly will play lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame.

Defensive Player of the Year:


The SportsFive - Graphtex Defensive player of the Year is junior defenseman / long stick middie Michael Manley of Penn Yan.
  
On a team with so much defensive talent, Michael still stands out and is considered by many to be one of the best defensive players to come out of Section Five. His one-on-one skills are a trademark, and he has thrilled fans from both teams with his clearing runs down field, ending with a shot and score.

GVLOA Sportsmanship Award:

/> The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Sportsmanship Award was presented to Coach Mark MacMillan and the Brighton Barons last nights.
  
"The award is presented to the team whose players, coaches and fans exemplify the true meaning of sportsmanship."
