Preseason 2006 - Brighton

BRIGHTON
s5 - Brighton finished the 2005 season with an overall record of 14-3. They took the number 2 position in the Monroe County – 2 League with a 12-2 record, having lost only to HFL. Much of their success over the last bri2two years can be attributed to attackmen James Ryan and Mike Ryerson, who along with midfielder Robbie Asselin and defenseman Ben Uline were named to the first team MC-2 list. Ryerson was named an Academic All American and Coach Mark MacMillan was MC-2 Coach of the Year.

The Barons entered the Class B tournament seeded number 2 on the class B side but lost to Geneva (number 3) (17-3) in the first round.

Brighton lost forty percent of their team to graduation including key players at every position. Gone are Ryan (Yale), Ryerson (Geneseo) in attack. The midfield lost Mykael Garcia, the defense lost Uline (Alfred State) and Mike Katz is no longer available in the goal.

The “big names” may be gone, but Brighton still has some players on which to build their team this year. Given their MC-2 schedule, they will certainly win games this year, but it probably will not be as easy as it has been in the last two years. Senior middie Robbie Asselin will most certainly stand out in his midfield. Junior midfielder Ryan Conti and sophomore middie Justin Hillery return along with senior Alex Stucki. Colin Davis will return to the attack along with fellow seniors Colin Hickey and Kyle Warren. Junior attackman Tim Williams will also return. In defense, only Dylan Carnavale returns for the Barons. Noah Berg returns in the goal for Brighton.bri1

Top newcomers include junior midfielders Jake Anderson (who may see time in attack), Sam Friedman, Dan Hill, Josh Uline and Mike Minarich along with sophomore middie Taylor Galbriath. Junior Peter Jefferies will join the defense.

Brighton’s schedule is not difficult by “section-wide” standards but it will probably challenge the Barons. They will play everyone in the Class B except Newark during their regular season so it is likely that they will know how they stack up by mid-season. The Barons open against Pittsford at home on March 25th.
