2006 Playing Rule Changes
All games played in the section are governed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) 2006 Boys Lacrosse Rules Book. Every coach should have a copy of the rules book and should be familiar with the rules. The book is available for $6.75 but members of the coaches’ branch of US Lacrosse receive the book as a benefit. New York State makes changes in the rules from time to time.Federation
There are a number significant rule change for the 2006 season. The full text can be found in the appendix. Here is the synopsis of the rule changes:
Rule 1-9-1-c | New standards for mouth protectors including that they must be highly visible (not white or clear). |
Rule 2-1 | Requires new procedure for listing the players in the scorebook. |
Rule 3-1-2 | Revises the number of goals from 10-12 in “mercy rule” before going to a running clock in the second half. |
Rule 4-1-1 | Changes the procedure for the pre-game coin toss and allows a team to choose to have the first “alternate possession” or the choice of goal at the start of the game. |
Rule 4-5-7 | Defines ball possession when the ball is in flight at the end of a period. |
Rule 4-7 | When a ball become stuck in a crosse, it is awarded to the opposing team. |
Rule 4-9-7 | States that goal is not counted if the stick head comes off during a shot. |
Rule 4-14 | Deletes the 10 second clearing rule and replaces it with 20 seconds to advance the ball over the midfield line. |
Rule 4-27-1 | Revises rule about stopping a game if the goalie breaks his equipment. |
Rule 4-27-3 | Requires that an injured player must leave the game and cannot return until the next allowable point of substitution. |
Rule 5-11-1 | Allows official to eject a player under specific conditions. |
Rule 7-5-2 | State the order in which a player serves multiple penalties. |
Reminder: | All jerseys shall meet new specifications by 2008 Points of Emphasis. |
