Penfield 11 - Fairport 9
NOTES: Penfield defeated Fairport 11-9. The Patriots fought back the in the fourth quarter and scored four unanswered goals spanning 13:26 to defeat Fairport 11-9. The Patriots went from being down 7-8 to leading 11-8 with only 4:55 remaining in regulation. The Red Raiders could not fight back to overtime. The game was tied seven times with the largest lead going to an 11-8 Penfield lead. Fairport led four different times throughout the game.
Fairport opened the scoring with Dan McAvoy assisting Kyle McAvoy with 9:50 remaining in the opening quarter. Eight seconds later Brian Wall assisted Max Spaan to tie the game at 1-1. Spaan finished with 4g-1a for the Patriots. Another major factor in Penfield victory came from Fairport's inability to stay out of the penalty box. The Red Raiders had eight penalties and the Patriots converted on three man-up opportunities. The first came with 6:51 remaining with Spaan assisting Ryan Fulton. Less than one minute later the Red Raiders tied the game again with Cameron Gebhardt scoring the first of his 2g-1a. Penfield scored the next two goals to lead 4-2 after the first quarter. Mitch Standera assisted both Spaan and Jake Sproule.
In the second quarter the Red Raiders fought back to take the lead with the first three goals of the quarter. Justin Kesselring scored the first of his 3g-1a. Less than 30 seconds later Dan McAvoy scored to tie the game for the third time at 4-4. Fairport retook the lead with 8:07 remaining with Kacin Welch scoring (assisted by McAvoy). Standera got his third assist to Brian Wall with 7:25 remaining to tie the game against. Both team scored one more goal to finish the first half 6-6.
Penfield outscored Fairport by one goal in the both the third and fourth quarters (with two goals in each quarter during their scoring streak). Penfield's Wall scored the Patriots second man-up goal with 11:27 remaining in the third quarter. Kesselring scored the next two for the Red Raiders to give them the 8-7 lead. The last two goals of the third quarter were scored by Wall and Spaan to give them the 9-8 lead going into the final quarter.
Spaan and Sproule scored to open the quarter and take the largest lead of the game for either team. The Red Raiders were held scoreless for over a quarter before Gebhardt ended the game with a goal (assisted by Kesselring) with 3:07 remaining in regulation. In the cage for Penfield, Liam Guiton finished with 9 saves (50%). Defenseman Jacob O`Connor led the Patriots with 4 ground balls. For Fairport, Joey Scalise and Tyler Wetzel split halves between the pipes. Both finished with three saves.
