2016 Player of the Year Honors

The 2016 Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section Five Championships.The winners were Ryan Maloney from Victor, Jared Conners from Pittsford and Gage Ponsetti from Penn Yan.

Offensive Player of the Year

Ryan MaloneyRyan Maloney- Victor Senior

Victor senior attackman, Ryan Maloney was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Scoring points in every game this year and averaging 4.9 points per game, he finished the season with 60 goals and 48 assists. He finished his career with the Blue Devils with 134 goals and 115 assists.

The US Lacrosse and Under Armour All American will be moving on to Cornell University in the fall.

 

Defensive Player of the Year

Jared ConnersJared Conners - Pittsford Senior

The senior defenseman, and long stick midfielder is a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Ranked, nationally at number 14 among seniors, Jared was a finalist for the USA Under 19 Lacrosse team and was named to All-USA second team by USA Today.

Next fall, Jared will honor the commitment that he made in his sophomore year at Pittsford to play for the University of Virginia.

 

Sportsman of the Year

Gage PonsettiGage Ponsetti - Penn Yan Senior

A number of high school coaches had complimentary comments about Penn Yan senior goalie Gage Ponsetti but his own coach, Brian Hobart had the most to say.

"Gage is a great teammate and leader. He respects the game at all times, always picks up his teammates and keeps an even keel while playing a very difficult position. Gage respects the opposition and values the spirit of competition."
