Fairport Fights Back for Overtime Win

Fairport fought back over the final 23 minutes of the contest to defeat Webster Thomas 8-7 in the first overtime period.  The Red Raiders held the Titans scoreless for the final 22 minutes of regulation, while scoring three goals to force the overtime.  Thomas scored the first goal and never trailed (although the score was tied 3 times) before Fairport scored the game winning overtime goal.  Kole Stuver scored his second goal of the game 1:33 into the first overtime period.  His brother Klay scored the game tying goal with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Thomas’ Joe Russo finished with three goals and scored the opening 2:29 into play with an unassisted goal.  The Red Raider’s responded less than 30 seconds later with their opening goal (Alex Nicastro from Colin Peers).  Thomas scored the next two goals over four minutes with Ryan Prine and Evan Pashalidis scoring.  Fairport scored their second and Thomas their fourth to end the first quarter with Thomas leading 4-2.

In the second quarter, Fairport came out swinging and tied the game at 4-4 with the opening two quarter of the quarter.  Thomas’ response was also back to back goals to preserve their two goal leading going into halftime.  In the third quarter, Thomas scored first with Russo scoring off a feed from Stevie Katz to put the Titans up 7-4 (their largest lead of the game).  Russo’s goal with 9:35 left in the third quarter was the last Titan goal of the game.  Fairport slowly fought back to within one by the end of the third and then tied with Klay Stuver’s goal with 6:20 remaining.

Fairport face-off man Jake Knapp finished 15/19 at the draw.  Goalie Tim Defendis recorded 5 saves for the Red Raiders.  Ethan Ruller recorded 11 saves for the Titans.
