Friday: It`s Victor and Pittsford in the Class A Finals

 

The highly regarded Blue Devils from Victor had no trouble securing their ticket to the finals as they defeated Webster Schroeder. Pittsford had a closer game with Penfield but will face Victor for the Class A Championship on Tuesday at St. John Fisher College.

--  SPORTSFIVE REPORT: Victor scored thirteen goals before Webster Schroeder got on the board. The Blue Devils won 21-4. They score too many unanswered goals to itemize each play. However, some stand-out performances throughout the game included: Ryan Maloney intercepting a pass between a defenseman and the goalie and scoring behind the back without breaking stride and long stick Patrick Barrow taking the ball coast and coast and scoring. Schroeder's first goal was scored with an impressive cross crease feed through traffic from Conor Bollin to Collin Griffin. Bollin finished with 2g-1a on 4 goals for the Warriors.

Victor vs SchroederAlthough the Blue Devils scored 21 points, goalie, Antonio Deleo had a number of strong saves for Schroeder. He finished with 16 recorded saves including a number of strong point-blank saves in the second half. The Blue Devils had three different goalies split time between the pipes. Chayse Ierlan played 32 minutes and recorded 1 save, Brennan Mackey played 9 minutes without a save and Connor Solomon played the final 7 minutes with 1 recorded save.

Victor will continue to play and will face second seeded Pittsford on May 31st at Fisher. They will play in the second game of the Class A Girls/Boys Finals at 7:00. When the Blue Devils and Panthers faced during the regular season, Victor defeated Pittsford 9-6. It was one of only two losses for the Panthers. Victor has not been defeated since the NYS Semi-Finals in 2014 where they lost to JD 17-13, the have won their last 40 consecutive matches.

--  SPORTSFIVE REPORT: After trailing 1-0, Pittsford scored four straight goals to take the lead for good. The Panthers kept up their scoring and, even though the Patriots scored late to make the score closer, they defeated Penfield 12-9. The Patriots scored the final four goals to decrease the deficit to only three goals. Pittsford`s largest lead was 12-5 at the end of the third quarters.

Pittsford spread out their scoring with only Jonathan Perotto (4g-2a) and Colby Barker (2g) finishing with over 1 point. Six other Panthers scored a single goal. Penfield also spread out their scoring with seven Patriots making their offensive scorebook. Leading the charge was Peter Schwab with 3g-2a. Schwab scored all three of his goals in the final four goal run for Penfield.

Pittsford vs PenfieldThe Patriots scored the opening goal after an initial technical face-off win. The Patriots took the ball up field and scored on the fast-break with Matthew Schoeneck assisting Brandon Buse. Pittsford responded with four of their own. The first three goals were scored/assisted by Perotto. He scored the opening goal with a fast-break down the right side. The second he assisted to Jake Belias of another fast-break. This one began with Jared Conners running the ball all the way up the field before finding Perotto (who fed to Belias). The third was a straight dodge at the goal for Perotto. The final goal of the first quarter was scored by Brennan Mooney on an outside shot. Pittsford led 4-1 after 12 minutes.

The second and third quarter had Pittsford pulling away. The Patriots added four goals (three in the second and one in the third). Pittsford scored eight goals in the same time frame. Pittsford led 12-5 going into the final quarter. The Panthers were held scoreless in the fourth off only 3 shots. Penfield scored four goals with Schwab scoring three all on outside shots. The fourth goal was scored during man-up with an inside feed from Dan Taddeo to Schoeneck.

Alec Starr recorded nine saves (50%) for the Panthers. Kaden Boardway recorded 5 saves for the Patriots. Pittsford will move on to play top seeded Victor on May 31st at Fisher. The Boys will play the second game of the Class A Girls/Boys Finals at 7:00. Pittsford will also play in the 5:00 game with Pittsford Girls (top seed) facing Fairport (second seed).
