West Islip Holds Out For Win

Section XI's West Islip hosted Penfield this afternoon and defeated the Patriots 8-7.  The Lions have won all three times that they have faced Penfield over the last four years.  West Islip is currently 7-1 this season.

The Lions scored the opening goal to take an early lead with Ryan Forcino scoring unassisted only 1:29 into the game.  Penfield remained down 1-0 for nearly 10 minutes before scoring back to back goals in under a minute to take a 2-1 lead.  Peter Schwab and Jason Berardicurti scored for the Patriots.  In the second quarter, the Lions exploded and scored four goals.  They held Penfield to only a single goal.  By halftime, they led 5-3.

In the second half, Penfield scored the opening goal with Joey Barboza assisting Andrew Powlin.  West Islip scored the next three goals to take their largest lead of the game at 8-4.  Penfield scored three more goals in the final six minutes, including two in the final 60 seconds.  However, it was not enough to force overtime.

Leading in scoring for Penfield was Dan Taddeo with 1g-3a.  Midfielder Andrew Powlin finished with a team leading four ground balls for the Patriots.
