The game began with back to back goals by Geneva. The Panthers scored the first goal 1:29 into the game with Dugan Doeblin feeding Noah Eighmey on the crease. Two minutes later, they scored again with a drive from the top of the restraining line by Nick Askin. The Panthers led 2-0 four minutes into play. Gananda responded with the next four goals spanning 14 minutes. Henry Bush scored the opening goal for the Blue Panthers with a cut along the left side of goal-line extended. When he came close to the crease, he jumped and turned to fire over his defenseman. Gananda kept up the pressure and scored the game’s first tying goal in extra man offense. Brett Cunningham scored the first of his five goals with a shot off the right flat. The go-ahead goal was scored by Cunningham with 0:04 remaining in the quarter. He drove down the right side and forced the ball into the back of the cage. Gananda led 3-2 after 12 minutes.
In the third quarter both teams added a single goal: Eighmey for the Panthers and Cunningham for the Blue Panthers. In the fourth quarter, Geneva came back strong to force the overtime. Geneva outscored Gananda 4-1 in the final quarter. Askin was a key factor in the comeback scoring three of the four himself. Jagger Kerr scored the fourth goal for Geneva. Askin’s final goal of the night was scored with 4:39 remaining. Neither team scored in the final four minutes of the game or the first four-minute overtime. Shanley scored the game winner with 2:00 remaining in the second overtime period. Defenseman Jake Gales recorded two takes for the Blue Panthers. Midfielder John Weise led in ground balls with seven. Senior Jason Good recorded 22 saves (73%) and was instrumental in keeping the Blue Panthers in the game. Geneva reported that Jacob Drennen made 18 saves (67%).
