2017-05-30 - Pittsford won their fifth Section Five Championship with a 9-5 win over Fairport.  The Panthers won their last Championship in 2015 with an 11-6 win over Penfield (HERE).  Pittsford took off and scored the first six goals before the Red Raiders got on the board.  The Panther defense held Fairport scoreless for 28 minutes.

Pittsford scored three goals in the first quarter.  The first two goals were both scored by All Tournament MVP Colby Barker.  Barker finished today’s match with 2g.  The first goal was scored with a drive to the center of restraining box and a turn and shoot.  The second was scored with a drive from behind the cage.  Pittsford scored their third goal off a dead ball drive from behind the cage by Sonny Imburgia.  Imburgia was also named to the All Tournament team for the Panthers.  Pittsford led 3-0 after 12 minutes.

In the third quarter the game became closer.  Pittsford scored the first two goals to go up 6-0 with scoring from Mozrall and Brennan Mooney.  Mozrall drove from behind and Mooney scored with a drive from the left flat.  With 8:57 remaining in the third quarter, Fairport got on the board.  The Red Raiders scored man-down with a drive from the back left by Reese Burek.  Less than one minute later, Burek made the same drive and scored again.  He was one of four Red Raiders named to the All Tournament team.  Six minutes passed before Fairport scored again.  Kyle McAvoy assisted Jake Bucci on the crease to pull within three.  With 0:04 remaining, Fairport’s Bucci took an outside shot and pulled with 2 to finish the quarter down 6-4.

Pittsford held the lead in the fourth, adding another three and holding Fairport to one.  Mozrall, Imburgia and Mooney scored for the Panthers.  Bucci (also named to All Tournament) added his third for the Red Raiders.  In the cage for Fairport, Jake Santini recorded 6 saves.  Rounding out the All-Tournament team were TJ Hendricks (Fairport), Peter Schwab (Penfield), Ethan Mann (Hilton) and Austin Sawyer (Fairport).  A link to the full Class A All Tournament Team is HERE.
