# 4465  2026 All-Section Five List Announced

The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2026 first team lists sixteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "After that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players. With the six first spots taken, there were only ten more places on the first team."

Victor

To be nominated each player was required to be selected to their first team all-league team (except Independent teams). The lists were selected this year from a pool of eighty-five players. The selections were reviewed by Chairmen of each of the two leagues, the Lacrosse Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator. "It is a difficult task", Wilson continued. "There are so many talented players, so many different opinions, and so many elements to consider." Players are reviewed for their performances, the strength of their opponents and how their stats relate Sportsmanto the quality of their opponents. "Certainly, the strength of a team's schedule is a factor when reviewing a player" said Section V Coordinator Mike Simon.

Although grade and league were not major factors in selection, the list shows the skills that are found throughout the section. Ten Monroe County teams were represented on the lists, with the rest representing Finger Lakes (3), and Independents (3). Showing that the "Best of the Best" can come from any age group, there were 20 seniors, 19 juniors, and 10 sophomores listed. Distribution among the positions shows 13 midfielders, 13 attackmen, 10 defensemen, 2 FO specialists, 2 LSM, 2 ssdm, and 4 goalies.

Section V Champion, Victor, played Vic vs Manhthe first game of the day, where Manhasset (Section VIII) won the Class B contest. In Class C, Rye (Section I) beat Jamesville-DeWitt (Section III) 15-9. In Class D, Cold Spring Harbor defeated Marcellus (section III) 11-9 and in the last game of the day at Hobart and William Smith College, Massapequa (Section VIII) beat West Genesee (Section III), 19-9.

VICTOR-7 at MANHASSET-10 - Manhasset, who had been playing as a Class C Team until recently, won their first Class B Championship Title since 1995 this afternoon with a 10-7 win over Section V’s Victor. The 'Set was back-to-back Champions in 2022 and 2023 in Class C but had not made the Championship game in the last two years. For Victor, this was their 8th time in the Championship game in the last 10 years. They were coming into the match-up looking for their first win since 2019 after losses to South Side and Garden City in their last two visits. The game was close for the majority of the contest before the 'Set were able to score four straight goals with four minutes left in the game to pull ahead. A key factor in the contest was the face-off’s. Manhasset finished 13/20 on the day, including splitting about 50/50 with Victor All-American Eli Ricci before Ricci was forced Vic vs Manhout of the contest with an injury and long stick Oliver Kowal took over the draw for the Blue Devils. In the fourth quarter, the 'Set won 6/8 draws to give them significant more ball time at chances at the cage.

Victor started off the game strong with Matthew Herendeen scoring less than a minute into the game. Four minutes later the Blue Devils got their second goal with Nathan Terrance threading an inside pass to Ricci in the middle of the defense. The first Indian goal was scored by Philip Palumbo with a dodge into the middle before creating space and firing a side-arm shot into the back of the net. The Blue Devils led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter opened with the third Blue Devil’s goal. Gage Hay drove to the cage and pulled a double team from the defense before dropping the ball off to Jackson Mead. Mead’s goal was the last for the Blue Devils for over 12 minutes, while the 'Set started a four goal streak spanning the rest of the second quarter and into the early third quarter. Freshman Tommy Kasselakis, who finished with a team leading 3g-1a, scored his first goal on an unassisted dodge from the top of the restraining line with 7:25 left in the half. The first tie of the game came at 3-3 with Marco Petruccelli scoring with a drive down the left side of the restraining line. Although victor forced two more ties, they never lead again. The 'Set added one more goal before halftime with Kasselakis finding Tommy Leder open on the crease. Manhasset led 4-3 going into halftime.

Vic vs Manh

The third quarter opened with another Indian goal. Petruccelli scored his second with a mid range shot. Less than thirty seconds later, Victor responded with Lincoln Snyder feeding Colin Wheeler. With one goal for each team in the third, Manhasset held the one goal lead (5-4) going into the final quarter. Victor forced the second tie of the game with Wheeler assisting Herendeen during a man-up attempt. Just over a minute later, Manhasset scored again with an outside shot from Peter Weston on the left side. It took four minutes, but Victor forced their third, and final, tie of the game with an unassisted goal from Hay with 5:09 left in the game. Vic vs ManhManhasset kept up the consistent pressure and added another four goals over the next four minutes. Mondiello scored first with a drive from the top of the restraining line, followed by back-to-back unassisted goals from Kasselakis. Thirty seconds after his second goal, Weston added his second goal an another unassisted score. The 'Set led 10-6 with 1:02 left on the clock. Victor added one more (Hay – unassisted) before time expired, but the 'Set held on to secure their NYS Class B Title.

It was an exciting season for the Blue Devils who finished their season with a record on 20-3. Their twelve-game winning streak included an exciting defeat of previously unbeaten Pittsford to win the Sectional Championships and post-season wins against Orchard Park, Horseheads, and Niskayuna.   [ Story and BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

# 4461  Victor Storms Past Niskayuna 17-9, Blue Devils Head to State Championship

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - Eli Ricci scored five goals and dominated faceoffs as Victor defeated Niskayuna 17-9 in the NYS Class B semifinal, sending Vic vs Niskythe Blue Devils to the State Championship game against Manhasset on Sunday, June 14th in Geneva.

VICTOR-17 at NISKAYUNA-9 - Victor punched its ticket to the Class B NYS Championship with a dominant 17-9 semifinal victory over Niskayuna Thursday at SUNY Cortland, winning despite a two-hour lightning delay that halted play at the end of the third quarter. The Blue Devils led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 5-1 first-quarter lead and never relinquishing control, extending their winning streak to twelve games and improving to 20-2.

Eli Ricci was the offensive standout, burying five goals while also dominating the faceoff Vic vs Niskycircle at 79%, winning 23 of 29 draws to give Victor a consistent possession advantage throughout the game. Jackson Mead was equally impressive, finishing with three goals and three assists to pace a balanced attack that saw seven different players find the back of the net. Colin Wheeler added three goals and Nathan Terrance and Oliver Kowal each chipped in two.

Victor controlled the game from start to finish, but Niskayuna showed fight, particularly in Vic vs Niskythe third quarter, when Sami Chowdhrey scored twice and Billy Roemer added another to briefly trim the deficit to 13-7 before the lightning delay stopped play. When the game resumed two hours later, Victor wasted no time, with Ricci scoring three of his five goals in a blistering stretch; three goals in under two minutes to open the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 16-7 and putting any remaining doubt to rest.

Will Simpson was steady in goal for nearly the full game, finishing with seven saves, as Victor's defense limited Niskayuna's scoring opportunities throughout. For Niskayuna, Vic vs NiskyChowdhrey finished with three goals and John Mooney added two, but the Blue Devils' relentless attack and faceoff dominance proved too much to overcome. At each game a player from each team was selected for the sportsmanship award. Senior attackman Rory Burke was selected from Victor. Sami Chowdhrey was honored for the Silver Warriors.

Victor, who defeated Niskayuna 9-6 during the regular season, will now face Manhasset (Section VIII) in the Class B State Championship at Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva on Sunday, June 14th at 10:00 AM. The Blue Devils are one win away from a state title.
