The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year. |
# 1277 Saturday: Victor wins Third Straight NYS Title DAY IN REVIEW: For the third year in a row, The Victor Blue Devils won a New York State Championship. Pittsford lost as Ward Meleville overcame a five deficit in the last four minutes of the game to force the game into overtime where Matthew Grillo scored the winnning goal for the Patriots. In the class C game, Cold Springs Harbor overcame a XX deficit and beat Jamesville DeWitt 11-9. In the first ever Class D game, Christian Brothers Academy defeated Westlake with a score of 12-5. # 1274 Class B State Title - Victor over Yorktown Victor won their third straight State Title with a 9-3 win over Yorktown. The Blue Devils trailed briefly after Yorktown scored the opening goal. However, they responded with seven goals and controlled the pace of the entire game. The Huskers added two goals in the third, but they never came back within range. The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Class B Offensive MVP Alexander Mabbett with 2g-2a. Matt Gardner was named Defensive Player of the Game. |
# 1249 Victor Heads to Finals for Fifth Straight Year In a game were the score was closer than the contest, Victor defeated Brighton 13-9. The Blue Devils had an 8 goal lead in the fourth quarter (13-5), before Brighton scored the final five goals. The Barons kept the game close earlier, before Victor began to slowly pull away. The Blue Devils held Brighton scoreless for 19 minutes spanning the entire third quarter. Victor advances to the finals for the fifth consecutive time (three time defending Champion). |
# 1186 Blue Devils Fall In their second consecutive match against Section Five teams, Brother Rice defeated Victor 10-9. The Warriors lost to Canandaigua last night 8-7 (HERE). After a third quarter where the Blue Devils failed to take a single shot, the Warriors fought back from a four goal deficit to tie the game at 7-7. They continued their scoring into the fourth quarter to lead by two with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter. |
