The 2024 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "after that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players."
There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. McQuaid (A), Victor (B), and Aquinas (D) were top seeds and won their championships. In Class C, HFL (seeded second) won their game with top-Pal-Mac.
The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.
Academically, nominees needed to have an average GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale). There were also six awards available in Section V and there were fifteen nominees. Some players were nominated for both awards and in the end five were selected.
In 2012, USA Lacrosse added an award named for the long-time Johns Hopkins lacrosse coach and Athletic Director, Bob Scott. The annual award is given to a senior of outstanding character, good academic standing and one who demonstrates good sportsmanship and safe play. The winner from Section V, this year, is Penfield senior Adam Schembri.
before the Blue Devils pulled ahead in the second half and held off a small push by Irondequoit in the middle of the fourth. Senior attackman Jack Herendeen finished with 2g-2a and was named the All-Tournament MVP. Much like the earlier game of the evening, this game was a defensive battle. Both goalies, Irondequoit's Sven Habitzreuther and Victor's Parker Erwin were named to the All-Tournamanet team. Both Habitzreuther and Erwin recorded 10 saves for their respective teams. Offensively for the Eagles, Jonah Carrier finished with 3g to head his team; in addition to being named to the All-Tournament Team, it was also announced tonight that he was named the Section V Offensive Player of the Year. 
The first quarter saw a flurry of scoring with both teams putting three into the back of the cage. Irondequoit scored the opener with Carrier scoring unassisted less than a minute into the contest. Three minutes later Victor scored their first goal. Tanner Radogna scored with an outside shot (assisted by Brody Secker). Secker finished with 1g-1a and was named to the All-Tournament team for the Blue Devils. Victor took their first lead of the game 2-1 with Jackson Mead scoring the first of his two goals. The play started after Christian Beasaw caught the ball behind the cage after a missed shot. He quickly turned the ball around to Mead along the left side the crease. Irondequoit did not let the lead last long as they scored on the ensuing face-off with Carrier adding another unassisted goal to his count. With 6:25 remaining, the score was tied 2-2. Each team added a single goal before the end of the quarter. Victor scored first with long-stick Cam Ryan scoring from a fast-break after a broken 
clear by the Blue Devils. Irondequoit`s was also scored during fast-break. Sophomore Dylan Carey scooped up the loose ball near his defensive restraining line and ran all the way up the field. He then assisted junior Ryan Avery for the goal. The score was tied 3-3 after the first quarter.
Much like the second, the third quarter was a defensive battle. Only a single goal was scored with Victor going back on top 5-4. Herendeen got his first point with an assist to Secker. All four of his points were in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Victor came out swinging and added two more goals before Irondequoit responded. Herendeen assisted another goal, this one to Besaw. This was followed quickly by Mead's second goal of the night (unassisted). The Blue Devils' had their largest lead of the night with 9:58 left on the clock (7-4).

# 3526 2024 All-Section Five List Released The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. To be nominated each player was required to be selected to their first team all-league team (except Independent teams). The lists were selected from a pool of ninety-seven players. The selections were reviewed by Chairmen of each of the two leagues, two at-large coaches the Lacrosse Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator. Although grade and league were not major factors in selection, the lists show the skills that are found throughout the section. Twelve Monroe County teams were represented on the lists, with the rest representing Finger Lakes (6), and Independents (3). Showing that the "Best of the Best" can come from any age group, there were 27 seniors, 10 juniors, and 4 sophomores listed. Distribution among the positions shows 12 midfielders, 11 attackmen, 10 defensemen, 2 FO specialists, 1 LSM, 1 A/M, and 4 goalies. First Team

# 3523 2024 Season Wrap Up *+ [UPDATED] There were thirty-four teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled eight games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 1,149 players on the final rosters, up 256 players from 2023. Penfield and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-eight players and Haverling and Pal-Mac with the smallest with nineteen.
McQuaid had a 6-4 win against second seeded Penfield, Victor won their game against second seeded Irondequoit 9-6. Honeoye Falls-Lima had a 16-11 win against top seeded Pal-Mac ending the undefeated season for the Red Raiders. The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 26th when nine games were played. The last regular season games were played on May 16th. The 301 regular season games were played and the 81 league games determined the league championships. According to the Section V website, in Monroe County-D-1 it was Fairport (8-6). In MC-2, Irondequoit (10-2) took the championship and in MC-3 Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-2) was on top. Pal-Mac (10-0) won the Finger Lakes East title and Mynderse (5-4) took the West title. There was no GRALL league this year.
At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then, after reviews of twenty-nine nominations, they selected six USA Lacrosse All-Americans and six All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Drew Angelo (HFL), Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece Storm), Jonah Crarier (Ironderquoit), Jack Herendeed (Victor), Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac), and Chase Perryman (HFL). Named All-Academics were Jeremey Askin (Geneva), Ben Cook (HFL), Anthony DeRosa (Schroeder), Alex Garrow (Wayne), Cam Ryan (Victor), and Adam Schembri (Penfield). Penfield Head Coach John Schembri was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Bob Scott Award winner was Adam Schembri from Penfield. The Coaches of Section V created a new award last year for the "Official of the Year" which was awarded to GVLOA official Dan Lacrosse.
The Monroe County Division 1 Player of the Year was Mike Valent (Rush-Henrietta). Cameron Mesh (Spencerport) was the Division 2 Player of the Year and Jack Faiola (Canandaigua) was Division 3 Player of the Year. Nominees for the Bob Scott Award were Drew Pagano (Schroeder) and Jason Mosher (Hilton) and the Section V and USA Lacrosse Bob Scott Award winner was Keenan Edwards (East United-Eastridge). The Monroe County Coaches of the Year were Aaron Botazzo (Irondequoit) in MC2, Bill Buttaro (Spencerport - MC3), and John Schembri (Penfield) in MC1. Assistant Coaches of the Year were Keith Keehn (Greece Storm) from MC1, Marco DeBole (Brighton) from MC2, and Jack Beaney (HFL) from MC3.
The Finger Lakes East Player of the Year was Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac). Max Heieck (Geneva) was selected Attackman of the Year, Alex Garrow (Wayne) was selected as Midfielder of the Year and Owen Weterings was picked as Defenseman of the Year. Peyton Lich (Pal-Mac) was selected as the Goalie of the Year. The Finger Lakes West Player of the Year was Griffin Hillimire (Mynderse). Tarikue Blueye (Marcus Whitman) was the Attackman of the Year, Melkamu Blueye (Marcus Whitman) was named Midfielder of the Year, and Issac Pundt (Mynderse) was the Defenseman of the Year. Kaiden Larsen (Midlakes-Red Jacket) was selected as Goalie on the Year. Connor Gorton (Marcus Whitman), was selected as the nominee for the Bob Scott Award. Alex Garrow (Wayne), was selected as the nominee for the Bob Scott Award.
The Finger Lakes Coaches of the Year were Joe Hill (Pal-Mac - East) and Joe Caraher (Mynders - West). The Assistant Coaches of the Year were Ryan Knope (Wayne - East) and Martin Williz (Bloomfield-Honeoye - West). The Persons of the Year were Derek Lich (East) and Jake Korneau (West). Fairport (Class A), Gates Chili (Class B), Batavia-Notre Dame (Class C) and Aquinas (Class D) were awarded the Steve Morgan Sportsmanship Awards by the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association. After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. McQuaid Jesuit (Class A), Victor (Class B), HF-L (Class C) and Aquinas (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024. There were All-Tournament Teams this year and there were MVPs for each class. Selected as MVPs for classes A, B, C and D were John Harding (McQuaid), Jack Herendeen (Victor), Drew Angelo (HF-L) and Noah Olbrich (Aquinas).
The SportsFive/Section V Players of the Year were Jonah Carrier (Irondequoit) in offense and Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece Storm) in defense. The Sportsman of the Year was Noah Olbrich (Aquinas). The New York State Tournaments saw a change with an out-bracket game for Classes C and D which required that those champions played against the Section VI champions to play in the quarter finals. Both HFL and Aquinas won those outbracket games against Lake Shore/SIlber Creek (Class C) and Akron (Class D). In Class A, McQuaid beat Orchard Park and then beat Liverpool in the semifinals. In Class B, Victor beat Niagara-Wheatfield, and then Vestal to reach the finals. In Class C, HF-L beat Johnson City (Section IV) and then lost to Jamesville-DeWitt and in Class D, Aquinas beat Chenango Valley (Section IV) and then lost to Marcellus in the semifinals. Section V sent two teams to the Championships, where McQuaid Jesuit defeated Farmingdale (VIII) in overtime and Victor lost to Southside (VIII) in overtime. The All-Section V Awards were back this year with fifteen first team, fifteen second team, and ten Honorable Mention picks. They have not been announced yet. The Democrat and Chronicle posted their AGR list in July: Jonah Carrier (Irondequoit) was selected as Player of the Year. Also making the team were Drew Angelo (HFL), Tano Auriuso (Aquinas), Ryan Bowerman (Penfield), Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece), Anthony DeRosa (Schroeder), Vincenzo Giangreco (McQuaid), Jon Harding (McQuaid), Jack Herendeen (Victor), Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac), Kieran Hughes (Brighton), Mitchell Monte (Fairport), Cooper Moore (Irondequoit), Chase Perryman (HFL), Brady Quill (Hilton), Cam Ryan (Victor),and Adam Schembri (Penfield). McQuaid Head Coach Alex Gray was chosen as Coach of the Year. At the end of the season at least fifty-nine seniors have made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.

# 3517 USA Lacrosse All-Americans and All-Academics *+USA Lacrosse has approved our nominees for their awards.
The All-American awards are given to excellent lacrosse players from the area. The national program allows one award for each six teams in the area but this year there were six awards available. Twenty-two players were nominated. Section Five coaches require that players who are in leagues must make first team league honors in order to be considered. For the All-Academic award, an emphasis has been placed on the academic qualification of the nominees, but players were required to be assets for their teams. Where, in the past, nominees for this award were first considered for their skill on this field, this year, although skill was considered important, nominees did not need to be "All-American" quality players. The Head Coaches also selected a USA Lacrosse Coach of the Year for NYS Section V. This year the coaches selected John Schembri, who has been the Head Coach at Penfield since 2009. The Patriots were 12-7 this year and advanced to the Sectional Finals. They have been to the finals five times under Coach Schembri and have won twice.
His father, Head Coach, John Schembri says, "Adam has played with the top level of club and select team players in both Lacrosse and Football. Above is a list of those accomplishments, however, beyond accolades I could not be prouder of the way he conducts himself on the field, within the school and in our community.

# 3511 Victor Takes Class B with 9-6 Win *+Victor defeated Irondequoit 9-6 tonight in the Class B Championship to win their tenth Title and second in a row. The game was close for the first half,
In the second quarter, each team added one goal. Victor took another lead with the first goal in man-up. Christian Besaw scored the first of his 2g-1a with a feed from Aiden Clinkscales only 0:32 into the quarter. The majority of the quarter was back and forth with both teams having a chance at the cage and both defenses standing strong. Irondequoit's goal was scored with 0:08 remaining on the clock. Carrier scored his third goal with another unassisted goal. This time with a straight drive at the goal from the top. The score remained tied (4-4) going into halftime.
Irondequoit attempted a comeback with back-to-back scoring. Cooper Moore scored the first goal and then turned around to assist the second (Oliver Grisdale scoring). However, it was not enough and Victor`s Herendeen tacked on to more goals to close out the game and send Victor to the State Tournament. # 3497 Week In Review - Week 7 EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.There were forty-six games played last week. There are seventy-four out of section games scheduled and 74 have been played. Section V teams have won 48 and lost 26 (65%). Pal-Mac (16-0) is the only undefeated team at this point.
Looking BackOn Monday there were five games played and one was a close one. Winners today were Geneva, Bloomfield-Honeoye, Gananda, and Greece Storm.
On Wednesday there were two games played and one was a close one. Livonia-Avon defeated Wayne by a score of 12-10. There is only one day left in the regular season. Tano Auriuso (Aquinas) and Cam Ryan (Victor) were named the On Thursday there were thirteen games played and four were close ones. Thomas defeated Rush-Henrietta by a score of 10-9. Marcus Whitman was a 11-10 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Midlakes-Red Jacket defeated Gates Chili by a score of 7-5 and Mynderse defeated Jordan Elbridge (Section III) by a score of 5-3. On Friday the tournament seeding was posted. Top Seeds went to McQuaid, Victor, Pal-Mac and Aquinas.
Looking AheadThe tournaments start in earnest this weeks with quarterfinals on Monday (C&D) and Tuesday (A&B). Semifinal games for C&D are on Wednesday at two sites. The Class C semifinals are at Victor at 5:30 and 8:00. (The times were advanced to accomodate other events.) The Class D semifinals are at Finger Lake Community College (FLCC) at 5:00 and 7:30.
Friday will see the semifinals for Classes A and B. The Class A games will be at Gates Chili at 5:00 and 7:30. The Class B games will be at Pittsford Sutherland also at 5:00 and 7:00. On Saturday, at FLCC, the Class C Championship will start at 11:00 and the Class D Championship is set to start at 1:30. After Memorial Day, on Tuesday, the Class A Championship, at St John Fisher University, will start at 5:00 and the Class B Championship will start at 7:30. The reason for the early championships for Classes C and D is that the NYSPHSAA is requiring them to play a pre-quarterfinal game in the State Tournament.
