HF-L Over Livonia in a Close One
HF-L scored the final three goals to defeat Livonia 6-5. This was the first contest between Livonia and HF-L. The game had four lead changes and was tied at 1, 2, 3, and 5. With the win, HF-L snapped their five game losing streak and improved their record to 3-5. Livonia started the scoring with a man-up goal from Reid Mattle (assisted by Nick Kallio). Three minutes later HF-L used another extra man opportunity to tie the game with Alex Mapstone assisting Garrett Ruff. On the next face off Livonia scored a fast-break goal with Jonathan Mohnkern assisting Kallio. The first quarter ended with Livonia holding on to a 2-1 lead.
HF-L scored the first two goals to start the second quarter. Tyler Buckland and Ian Clark scored to give the Cougars their first lead of the game. Mattle scored the second of his four goals to tie the game again 3-3 going into halftime. Mattle added two more goals to start the third quarter with the former assisted by Zach Bishopp and the latter being unassisted. His goal with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter was the final goal for Livonia.
The fourth quarter began with a man-down goal (off an illegal cross) by Buckland with an assist from Dylan Stratton. Mapstone tied the game with an unassisted goal with 3:38 remaining in regulation. Garrett Ruff scored the game winning goal on his sixth shot of the game with 1:12 remaining. In the cage for Livonia, John Stockslader recorded five saves. Bishopp finished at 83% for the face-off draw. He also led his team with nine ground balls. Defenseman Ethan Perham and Stockslader added six ground balls each.
