Willie Klan Makes USA Under 19 Team
Penfield/Schroeder goalie Willie Klan (Ohio State) was named to the final roster of the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Under-19 Team that will play in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, July 7-16 in Coquitlam, British Columbia next summer.
After starting with over one hundred players who were invited to tryouts last June, in Baltimore, the team was cut to fifty-one players in August and then thirty who played last one last exhibition game earlier this month.
Five players from Section Five made the original prospects list including Brandon Barker(Pittsford/Ohio State), Jamie Trimboli (Victor/Syracuse) and Kevin Hill (Thomas/Penn State). Pittsford LSM/Defenseman Jared Conners (Pittsford/Virginia) made it through to the final cuts today.
High School senior goalies Phil Gross (Deerfield Academy/Brown) and Jack Pezulla (Boys' Latin/North Carolina) also made the final roster of twenty five. Before the games begin to of the twenty players will be named as alternates.
The team will have a two day training program in Baltimore in June and a four day session in July in Seattle before crossing the border into Canada for the games.
