Week In Review - Week 8

There were forty-six games played last week and lots of exciting ones. At the moment there are seventy-two out of section games scheduled and sixy-eight have been played. Section Five has won thirty-eight and the out of section teams have won thirty.

Looking Back

Fairport celebrationThere were five games played on Monday including Canandaigua who beat Hilton 11-10 and Eastridge who posted a 10-9 victory against Newark. Wayne took an 8-5 win from McQuaid as goalie Jack Acker made 10s (67%).

Tuesday was busy with eleven games including Fairport's win over Irondequoit, Brighton's win at Pittsford and Penfield's win against Thomas.

Wednesday saw Pal-Mac and Waterloo winning.

There were fourteen games on Thursday. Thomas scored the first six goals in their 11-10 win over Churchville-Chili. Seven players made the offensive book for Brighton (11-2) as they beat visiting Irondequoit 15-11. Penn Yan defeated Geneva 12-6. Pittsford beat Penfield, Canandaigua beat Schroeder and Hilton beat R-H 11-10.

Fairport celebrationEast United, Marcus Whitman and Hilton won games on Friday.

On Saturday Fairport celebrated fifty years of lacrosse on Saturday with a 12-3 win over Orchard Park. There were lots of games at all levels, dinners, and an alumni game. At the start of the Varsity game against Orchard Park, three of the four coaches that have led the Red Raiders were acknowledge at midfield. The first coach, Jim Slusarski, who started the team in 1969 was present along with Randy Garrett, who took over in 1980 was in charge until Mike Torrelli took over in 2005. 

The Greece Storm (10-5) played a close game with Webster Schroeder (7-8) as they won 10-8 with scoring by six players, led by Nicholas Leonardi (2g-2a) and Trevor Gillard (4g). Penn Yan was a 17-7 winner at West Seneca East (Section VI) today. The win gave Head Coach Brian Hobart his 250th win at Penn Yan.

 

Looking Ahead

Fairport celebrationThere is only one week left in the regular season and games will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The Tournament seeding and brackets will be posted here on Saturday

On Monday, Victor will play JD (14-1) and Pittsford will play Orchard Park (11-4). Wins for them could boost their tournament seeding positions. Eastridge will play Marcus Whitman and East United will play Gates Chili.

On Tuesday fifteen games will be played It looks like the Aquinas at McQuaid game will be important in determining the GRALL Champion. Hilton at Irondequoit looks like a good one, as does Pal-Mac at Wayne. Penfield will play at Canandaigua and Waterloo is at Newark. The Finger Lakes tournament is Tuesday and Thursday. 

On Thursday, the Finger Lakes tournament finishes. Penn Yan is at Thomas, Irondequoit is at Penfield and St. Francis is at Pittsford. Victor will play Corning (14-1) whose only loss was their first game of the season against Geneva. Brighton will finish their regular season at Fairport.
