RH Holds Off Livonia-Avon Fourth Quarter Push
After leading for the majority of three quarters, RH had to fight back in the final five minutes to defeat Livonia-Avon 10-9. The Royal Comets had not scored in over 12 minutes when Nick Cowie scored the game winning goal with 0:17 left in regulation.
The Lakers started off strong in the opening quarter. Ryan Lambert scored the game opener off a feed from Matthew Connor 3:33 into the contest. RH responded with Gunner MacMillan scoring to tie the game for the first of five times throughout the game. The team continued to alternate goals with Livonia taking the lead and RH forcing the tie. Lambert scored his second goal with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter to take the lead for the last time. The Royal Comets scored back to back goals to take their first lead in the game off scoring from Afton McKenzie and Zack Lenhard. RH led 4-3 after the first 12 minutes.
The Royal Comets kept up the pressure in the second quarter and outscored the Lakers 4-2 to increase their lead to a game high three goals (8-5). In the second half, Livonia-Avon slowly fought back and scored four the next five goals. Reverdy Clarke scored back to back goals in third before Lenhard scored his fifth of the night to maintain a two goal lead (9-7) after three quarters. Lenhard (5g-1a) was a part of 6/10 Royal Comet goals.
The fourth quarter was similar to the third with Livonia-Avon scoring back to back goals; however, this time they forced the tie with 5:39 left in regulation. The Lakers never got the last goal to take back the lead and Cowie scored with time expiring off a feed from Lenhard. With the win tonight, RH moves to 3-0 and Livonia falls to 2-2. Both of the Laker losses have been single point games (AQ-12 vs. L/A-11 on Thursday).
In the cage for Livonia-Avon, Isaac Sweet recorded 4 saves. Defenseman Caleb Gardner led in ground balls with nine and takes with 4. Clarke, in addition to his 2g-1a, also recorded 3 takes for the Lakers. For the Royal Comets, Cameron Kuzniar finished with 12 recorded saves.
