Thursday: Irondequoit Wins 8-7 Victory Over Aquinas

Aquinas held the lead for much of the game, but a strong showing by the Eagles gave Irondequoit their second win of the season .Daniel Doktor (2g-2a) led the offensive effort while goaltenders Max Eismann (5s/5ga) and Carter Whittemore (6s/2ga) split time for the Eagle. For Aquinas, Nick Tschetter (3g-1a) led the scoring effort while Bryce Kelly made 11s for the Little Irish.

AQ at Irondequoit

--  SPORTSFIVE Report: Irondequoit fought back from a three goal deficit to defeat Aquinas 8-7 in a night game at home. The Eagles scored three goals in the final quarter to tie the game and take the lead with 5:43 remaining. Kessel Stefano scored three goals for Irondequoit, including the goal to take the lead.

Aquinas started off quickly, scoring three unanswered goals to set the pace of the game. Elliot Clemmons, Evan Kelly and Nick Tschetter scored three goals in less than five minutes. Irondequoit senior attackman, Daniel Doktor, scored the lone Eagle goal in the first quarter with 0:05 remaining. He finished the game with 2g-2a. Aquinas led 3-1 going into the second quarter.

Tschetter scored his second goal but Irondequoit kept the game close with back to back goals from Stefano (the first assisted by Doktor and the second by Mike Coholan). Tschetter`s third goal finished out the half with the Little Irish still holding a two goal lead. The third quarter saw the beginning of the Irondequoit comeback. The Eagles scored two goals and held the Little Irish scoreless. Jack Brennan and Doktor scored one goal each to tie the game 5-5 going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Eagles. Aquinas sophomore midfielder, Jonathan Parrinello, scored the opening goal to take their last lead of the contest. Three Irondequoit goals spanning seven minutes gave them their first and only lead of the game. Coholan, Stefano and Brennan scored one goal each in the final quarter. The final goal of the game was scored by Evan Kelly with 2:00 left on the clock.

The final minutes of the game were exciting with both teams having chances to close out the game. Aquinas had a late extra-man opportunity that the Eagles man down defense closed out. Irondequoit attempted to slow down the pace, but Aquinas took the ball back and had another shot at the goal. A late shot by Jamir Jones (Aquinas) bounced off the pipe to keep Irondequoit in the lead. The Eagles took back possession with 0:37 remaining and held the ball for the win.

In the cage for Aquinas, Bryce Kelly finished at 58% (11 saves). For Irondequoit, Carter Whittemore and Max Eismann split halves. Eismann finished at 50% with five saves and Whittemore finished at 75% with six saves. Aquinas goes on to play Livonia at home on Saturday. Irondequoit will face HFL next Tuesday.
