-- Wayne Central secured their sixth win of the season with an 8-6 win over Marcus Whitman. The Eagles trailed 5-2 in the second quarter before scoring six unanswered goals spanning eleven minutes. Just 1:24 into the game, Cody Matteson threw the ball to Chris Schimpf who charged from the back of the goal, tight to the crease and put an underhand shot past Wayne junior goalie Merritt Bailey (13 saves - 62%). The Wildcats scored the next two goals, just forty-two seconds apart. Matt Hall scored first with an assist from Bailey who ran down field on a clear and took it nearly to the goal before dishing it off to Hall. On the ensuing face off senior midfielder Tyler Dancause took the ball right to the cage and past Wayne junior goalie Justin Townsend. Wayne tied the game with 3:29 left in the quarter. Schimpf, on the right wing found Matteson cutting straight at his from the left side. Whitman ended the scoring in the first quarter when they picked up the ball on the face off and brought the ball down to Hall. He worked his man and then popped out and fed senior attackman Connor Kelly standing alone the crease.
Whitman picked up the first two goals of the second quarter. Hall (2g-2a) added his second goal with a drive from the left wing after beating his defender and taking Townsend one-on-one. Less than two minutes later, after a shot bounced off the Wayne goalie, Lukas Brassi quickly scooped up the ball on the high crease and popped it in the goal to give Whitman a 5-2 lead at 9:32. The rest of the game, however, belonged to the Eagles as they scored the next six unanswered goals.
First up was Chris Ecker on the crease. He received the ball from Schimpf and scored as he was pushed hard from behind. The goal scored and the technical was not served. Senior attackman Josh Bowman scored next with a sidearm shot from top left. The tying goal was scored with 1:47 left in the half when junior attackman Andrew Jenkins took a shot that was intercepted by Tim Oddi on the far side of the crease. Oddi quickly put the ball in the unguarded side of the net.
In the third quarter that ball moved up and down the field a number of times before Jenkins found sophomore midfielder Jake Moss who bounced the ball past Bailey for the go-ahead goal. Junior middie Austin Leckinger scored the next Wayne goal with a shot from twenty yards out front. A broken clear secured the ball for the Eagles and Tim Oddi scored the last goal for Wayne at 6:41. The last goal of the game was scored by Kelly who was on the crease. He received a crispy pass from Hall and turned quickly for a point blank shot on the cage.
There was no scoring in the last twelve minute quarter and the Eagles took the 8-6 win.
