Brighton Lacrosse to Help the Troops

Jake Silver, Brighton High class of 2009, played defense on the Brighton boys' lacrosse Brighton Lacrosseteam. In 2008 he received Monroe County All League Honorable Mention. The following year Jake was named to the Monroe County All League second team for his defensive play. Brighton's Assistant Lacrosse Coach, Jody Rose, met Jake in the 2009 season. "The kid is a warrior, he never gives up. He's the toughest kid I have ever coached and the nicest. After graduation, Jake joined the United States Marine Corps. A few weeks ago, Jake was deployed to Afghanistan. Coach Rose added: "I feel safer just knowing Jake is a Marine."

armed forcesSophomore JV lacrosse player Will Hunerlach's community service project involved collecting comfort care items to send to US troops serving overseas. When news of Jake's deployment reached the Brighton lacrosse community, Will's community service project was embraced by both players and parents. With Jake as the standard bearer, Brighton boys' lacrosse is collecting a wide range products to make overseas duty a bit easier. Jake's influence is felt by the Barons. Senior David Hill said: "Players still talk about how Jake would handle a situation. He's the best leader I've ever known."

Brighton boys' lacrosse will dedicate the game on Saturday, May 7 against Pittsford to all US military personnel.

Families and fans are urged to donate one or several things on this list: beef jerky, Slim Jims, powdered drink mix, single serve food with pop tops, trail mix, sunscreen, vitamins, lip balm, (thick) baby wipes, hand and foot warmers, Gold Bond foot powder, flea collars, protein and fiber bars and waterless tooth brushes.

Donations will be gladly accepted at the concession stand at any Brighton lacrosse home game.
