- Brighton turned everything around last season after two relatively disappointing years. Having moved to Monroe County Division III and taking on a new Head Coach in Mike Gottko, the Barons finished with an 11-1 league record (13-3 overall). Brighton 2009They won their first round game against HF-L and lost to Canandaigua in the semifinals to finish as seeded. Brighton returns in 2010 looking poised to defend their Division III title. Coach Gottko writes, "Trying to defend a division Championship will be different from last season when we were trying to attain that goal. The kids are motivated to improve and compete."

On paper Brighton lost a lot to graduation. The loss of leading goal scorer Evan Davis, leading assister and point scorer Mark Henrichs and goalie Kyle Hohmann will all be notable losses for the Barons. Davis was named Division III Player of the Year and is attending Jacksonville. Henrichs was tied for twentieth in total points for all of Section Five and Hohmann finished his high school career with 458 saves and is attending Clarkson. Brighton also lost midfielder Maliek Likely and Conor Stucki as well as defenseman Alex Jordan and Jake Silver. They have a lot of talent to replace but have a number of strong underclassmen poised to step into key roles.

Offensively, one strong asset has transferred in from McQuaid Jesuit. Senior Nick Wolak is at Brighton for his senior year. He finished last season with 35g-8a for the Knights and has already made plans to attend Marist in the fall. Additionally, juniors Mike Asselin, Brackett Bourne, Max Brauer, Steven Cregan and CJ Wool all return to the Baron roster. All combined, the five returning juniors scored 117g-68a. The junior class will be the cornerstone of the Brighton offense.

Between the pipes last year's backup goalie Jordan Carey (21 saves spanning 10 games) and new goalie Matt Ingalls will compete for the starting position. Defensively the loss of Jordan and Silver will be tough to replace. Coach Gottko writes, "This year there will have to be a greater emphasis on team defense." The return of juniors David Hill (HM defense) and Dan Pierce (Second Team Defense) will help with stability this season.

Overall the Barons look to continue their dominance in Division III, but will need to step up if they hope to compete in Class B on a Sectional level. Division III teams (like Brighton) are allowed to schedule four non-league games and Brighton will face Churchville-Chili, Pittsford, Gates Chili and Hilton.
