Thursday Games
Five games were played today, several starting with a moment of silence for Jeff Milano-Johnson. Section Five faired well against Section Six as Schroeder beat Hamburg and Penfield beat Timon. Penn Yan defeated Fairport and Geneva beat McQuaid Jesuit, while Thomas was the winner over Brockport.
Penn Yan held Fairport scoreless for a 36 minute stretch and after a 3-1 halftime lead went on to win 6-3 at home.
Defensemen Mike Manley (1a) and Donie Benedict (1g) led the Penn Yan defense with goalie R.J. Wickham who had an outstanding game while making 12 saves, intercepting passes and initiating numerous successful clears.
Tom Rynn (2g) led the scoring for Fairport and goalie Kristoffer Sterzin also had a good game at 6s/6ga for the Red Raiders.
Scoring for Penn Yan were Adam Trombley (1g-3a), Cole Castle (1g), John Linan (2g), Mike Manley (1a), Donie Benedict (1g) and Matt Osgood (1g). RJ Wickham recorded 12s/3gs (80%) for the Mustangs (4-1).
Scoring for Fairport were Tom Rynn (2g), Shawn Runyon (1a), Brendan Saylor (1g), Aaron Jones (1a) and Mike Danylyshyn(1a). Kristoffer Sterzin recorded 6s/6ga (50%) for the Red Raiders (1-4).
Webster Schroeder beat host Hamburg (Section 6) 14-8 this afternoon. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Three of the first six goals were by Grant Catalino, two were scored Mike Tota and one by Austin Orsini. Hamburg came back with a goal at the end of the 1st quarter and 2 more goals to start the 2nd quarter. Andy Winslow and Tota each scored to close out the half and give Schroeder an 8-3 lead.
Nick Mooney got the Warriors going in the 3rd quarter. Catalino, Barilla and Tota (with a spectacular assist by Steve Sullivan) added goals in the 3rd quarter which ended with the Warriors up 12-5.
Austin Orsini added a goal early in the 4th quarter to complete a 7 point performance (2g- 5a). Joe Matison scored his first varsity goal with a feed from TJ Knauf to end Webster’s scoring. Hamburg scored two goals late in the game 14-8.
Schroeder had 13 assists in the game led by Orsini’s with five. Mike Barilla did an outstanding job winning 8 out of 10 face offs. Chris Topping won 8 out of 13 face-offs and David D’Ambrosia won 1 out of 2.
Zach Marshall recorded 13s/6ga (68%) and Brian Enck added 5s/2ga (71%). The defense withstood several man-down situations without giving up a goal. The foursome of Trent Thurston, Tim Winslow, Steve Sullivan and Tim Marshall held Hamburg scoreless during a two man down situation in the second half.
Scoring for Schroeder were Catalino (4g-1a), Tota (4g-3a), Andy Winslow (1g-1a), Barilla (1g), Matison (1g), Orsini (2g-5a), Mooney (1g), Knauf (1a), Ben Bednarz (1a) and Steve Sullivan (1a)
It was Penfield the 15-4 winner over visiting Timon St Jude (Section 6) as seven different players made the offensive scorebook.
Scoring for the Patriots were Kyle Denhoff (5g-1a), Kevin Green (4g-1a), Connor
Rice (1g-1a), Alex Miles (1g-1a) and James Dwyer (2a). Kyle VanThof scored (3g-3a) and won 5 out of 9 face-offs while Dan Huntington won both his face-offs. Kevin Roe scored (1g), and won 7 of 9 Face-offs for Penfield. Brady Del Pozzo had 6s/1ga (86%). Penfield is now 2-2 for the season.
Scoring for Timon were Tom Vivian (3g) and Mike Nelligan (1g). It was Timon's first game of the season.
After bringing the teams together and then a moment of silence for the Pittsford team and families, Webster Thomas won an 8-1 victory over Brockport with the help of a big third quarter. Brockport, who saw freshman defenseman, Will Glynn score an unassisted goal on a broken clear, held the lead 1-0 at the half.
After the break, the titans went right to work. Nick Scalzo got the Titans on board with an assist from Brendon Rothfuss. Two minutes later Scalzo scored again (unassisted). Max Gurowski scored unassisted goal with 3 minutes left and Rothfuss scored two goals (one assisted by Dan Hinderland) to end the quarter.
Jack Hinderland scored with an assist from Dom Scalzo at the top of the last quarter and then Rothfuss scored again, this time in man up. Kyle Lavallee scored an unassisted goal with 4 minutes left to give the Titans the win. Senior goalie Kevin Ryan and sophomore Jim O'Neil split time in the nets for Thomas (3-2).
Scoring for Thomas were Dom Scalzo (1g-1a), Brendon Rothfuss (2g-1a), Nick Scalzo (1g-1a), Max Gurowski (1g-1a), Dan Hinderland (1g), Jack Hinderland (1g), Kyle Lavallee (1g).
Scoring For Brockport was Will Glynn (1g). No report from Brockport.
Geneva went right to work in the game with McQuaid Jesuit, taking a 6-1 first quarter lead to a 10-4 halftime before winning 19-9 at home.
Scoring for Geneva were Kyle Boncaro (7a), Alex Love (5g), R.J. Gringeri (4g-1a), Greg Bonney (3g), Jimmy Warner (2g), Sean Braman (1g-1a), Andy Torruella (1g), Willy Rago (1g), John Warner (1a), Tyler Travis (1a). Senior goal keeper Matt Schutz had 12s/9ga (57%) for the Panthers (5-1).
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Junior attackman Mitch Ritchie (5g-1a), senior midfielder Evan Gallina (2g), and junior middie Nick Caton (2g).
