Monday: Three Games
There were three games scheduled for Monday. The early game was won my Gates Chili, 15-6 over Greece Athena/Odyssey. The late games were Newark at Canandaigua and Pebble Hill (Section 3) at Mynderse.
Gates Chili improved their record to 2-3 with their 15-6 win over host Athena/Odyssey at Athena. Junior attackman Andy Hilton led the charge with 5g-4a and sophomore attackman Tom Sudek added 3g-5a. Seniors Andy McEntee and Jim Drabin each scored 2g-2a and sophomores Brad Weber, Pat Sposato and Tom Elkins each scored one goal. Junior goalie Dave Bellavia had 8 saves and freshman goalie Jason Baetzhold added 6 saves for Gates Chili.
Dave Rodriguez led the Thunder effort with 2g-2a while Matt Machucki and Mike Conderman each added 1g-1a. Joe Prestigiacomo and Jared Bennett added one goal each. Junior goalies Nick Bellucco (6s) and Dave Tarana (2s) split duties in the cage for the Thunder.
"We got our transition game going and played a solid game but the Newark team should be commended as they never gave up and continued to play hard through out the game," was the way that Canandaigua Head Coach Ed Mulheron put it after the Braves beat Newark 17-4 at CA.
Thirteen different Canandaigua players made the scorebooks led by Andrew Knoblauch with 6a, Connor Henderson with 2g-2a, and Zack Scheetz (3g) who was named tonight as the Sportsman of the Week. Austin Rogers scored 2g-1a, while Jeremy Brown, Charlie Sauter and Justin Tomzak added 2g each. James Regan and AJ Groot each added 1g-1a while Evan Roth and Tyler Wakefield each scored 1g. Nick Munn and Eric Klein each recorded an assist. Canandaigua goalies Scott Bement (2.5 quarters, 7s/3ga) and Kyle Carson (1.5 quarters, 4s/1ga) shared the goaltending duties for the Braves (3-2).
Scoring for Newark were Greg McBride (1g-2a) while Nate Johnson, Colin Johnson and John Barrett each scored a goal and Adam Golding added an assist. Junior Josh Putman had an amazing day in the goal making over 20 saves for the Reds (2-3).
Mynderse was the 19-15 winner over visiting Pebble Hill (Section 3) as junior midfielder Kevin McCully scored eiight goals and added 5 assists. Also scoring where Anthony Clark (3g), Jon Young and Eric Davids who scored (1g-2a) and Tim Sweeting and Sean McGeimley who added (1g-1g). Dustin Luckinbill added 2g and Josh Kurdziolek and Chris Damato each added a goal. Senior goalie Zac Rescort recorded 10 saves for Mynderse (2-2).
Scoring for Pebble Hill were Zach Stultz (3g), Tris Worth (4g), Frank Ssuits (2g-1a), Scott Meehan (4g-2a) and R. Anderson (1g). John Saltman made 19 saves.
