Westhill over West Seneca East
After winning their first Sectional title in program history, Westhill moves on to the State Finals with a 17-3 win over West Seneca East. West Seneca East also celebrated their first Sectional title this year. Westhill came into game strong and scored 10 of the first 11 goals to take the lead into the second half. They scored nine straight goals spanning the first three quarters. The Warriors return to St. John Fisher to face Islip who defeated Pelham Memorial 14-4 to advance to the Finals.
Westhill started off the scoring with unassisted drive from Owen Matukas. He finished with 2g-4a for the Warriors. On the ensuing face-off, West Seneca East scored on a face-off fast-break. Drew Werner assisted Colin Schmatz after a series of quick passes. The Warriors scored the final two goals of the quarter. Charlie Bolesh scored the first of his 3g-1a with a fast-break goal. He drove straight to the cage and shot after a spin past his defenseman. Less than thirty seconds later, the Warriors scored during extra-man offense. Matukas scored his second off a feed from Will Delano. Westhill led 4-1 after 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, Westhill added six more and held the Trojans scoreless. Luke McAnaney scored the first off an inside crease feed from Matukas. Matukas also assisted the second with an inside feed to the crease to Reilly Sizing. The Warriors kept up the pressure and added four more before halftime. They led 9-1 at the half. Coming into the third quarter, Westhill scored the first off a broken clear. Sizing grabbed the loose ball after it was checked to the turf. He then pushed upfield to Bolesh for the goal. The Trojans scored their second goal with Jared Maurino assisting Danny Flynn. Westhill scored three more goals to end the quarter. They led 13-2 after 36 minutes.
In the final quarter, Westhill added another 4 and West Seneca East added their third goal. Mack Etoll and Brian Costello scored their first goals of the game in the final 12 minutes. For the Trojans, Shuan Dolac scored unassisted. In the cage for West Seneca East, Damond Flynn (8s/11ga) and Brandon Moore (3s/6ga) split time. For Westhill, Liam Felter (2s/3ga) played the majority of the game with Andrew Corning finishing out the last five minutes and recording 2 saves.
