Fairport over JD, Gananda over Wayne in OT
Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2.
Gananda’s John Weise scored the game winning goal during the first overtime period. The Blue Panthers defeated Wayne 9-8 after scoring four of the last five goals. Gananda opened up the game with the first two goals. Evan Smith scored off a feed from Jake Rapp followed by Rapp scoring off a feed from Weise. Wayne responded with five unanswered goals to go up 5-2 with 2:23 remaining in the half. Brett Cunningham scored the final goal of the half to put the Blue Panthers within two goals. Victor broke away from a 4-2 first quarter and cruised to a 15-7 over Baldwinsville(10-3) of Section 3 as nine players made the offensive book for the blue Devils (12-1). Webster Thomas scored seven unanswered goals in the first quarter and finished their game with Clarence (Section 6) 14-5.
Fayetteville-Manlius scored the first three goals of the game and although Pittsford tied the game three times, the Hornets never let go of the lead in their 8-6 win. Story Continues...
NOTES: McQuaid Jesuit freshman face off man Jack Miller won 21 or 23 face offs in their 18-8 win at Canisius. Austin Blumbergs (5g-1a) was the lone senior starter for Penn Yan in today's game with West Seneca East. Freshmen Ayden Mowry (4g-1a) and Max Brodmann (1g) accounted for led the underclassmen who accounted for twelve points in the game. Sophomore goalie had 11 saves (79%) for the Mustangs.
HF-L and Hilton played a close game tonight with the Cougars winning 8-6. HFL opened up with the first goal less than one minute into play. Jonathan Roth scored with a single player drive down the left side to give the Cougars and early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later and Hilton responded. Justin Mosher drove at the cage and instead of taking a shot, he passed off to Jordan DePetres behind the cage. DePetres was already moving and came around the goal line to finish into the back of the net. Story Continues...
Irondequoit boosted their record to 8-3 with an 11-7 win over visiting Churchville-Chili. After breaking a tie in the first quarter, the Eagles broke away and held the lead throughout the rest of the game despite a last quarter surge by the Saints. Junior attackman Jack Brennan led the Irondequoit offense with 2g-6a and Senior midfielder Kessel Stefano added 5g-1a. Jacob Buck (3g-1) and Corey Yunker (1g-3a) led the Saints
Also winning today were Spencerport, Waterloo, Aquinas, Livonia-Avon and Haverling.
