Burley Scores Game Winning Goal in Second OT

After a game that was tied at every step, Senior Alex Burley scored his fourth goal in the second overtime period to give Canandaigua their second overtime win of the season over Pittsford 7-6.  The Braves improve to 3-1 after their overtime wins vs. Penn Yan last week and Pittsford this week.  Burley was key in their victory, scoring both the game tying and game winning goals.

Pittsford began the scoring less than a minute into play.  Sonny Imburgia scored 0:31 into play with an unassisted drive to the goal.  Canandaigua responded to force the first of six ties with an unassisted goal of their own.  Mitch Pfeiffer scored the first of his 2g with 10:13 remaining in the first quarter.  Both teams added one more goal before the end of the quarter.  Harrison Cross (assisted by John Avery) scored for the Panthers and Mark Belles scored for the Braves.  The score was tied 2-2 after 12 minutes.

The Braves took their first lead at 3-2 with Burley’s first goal, 0:10 into the second quarter.  Pittsford responded with Imburgia`s second goal (this time assisted by Cross).  The teams continued to alternate until the final quarter.  The score was 5-5 after 36 minutes with Imburgia scoring his third to tie the game at 5-5.

The first seven minutes of the final quarter were scoreless for both teams.  Imburgia scored his final goal to put Pittsford back on top for the first time since quarter one.  The Panthers held the lead for the next four minutes and into the final minute of play.  With 0:38 remaining in regulation, Burley scored unassisted to force overtime.  The game winning goal was not scored until the second overtime period (5 minutes into sudden victory play).
