Penfield Takes down West Islip

SATURDAY: DAY IN REVIEW: Local games were postponed due to cold and sometimes snowy weather. Three out of town games, however were played as the vacation week came to an end. Penfield used the last quarter to get their 9-7 win against West Islip (Section 11). Pal-Mac lost to Cathedral Prep (Erie, PA) and Pittsford lost to Baldwinsville (Section 3).

Jacob EmmickPenfield scored the final three goals of the game to defeat West Islip 9-7.  The Lions have played a tough opening schedule and are currently 1-4, with their most recent loss to Ward Melville in OT 6-5.  The Patriots, now 3-1, came into today’s game with their lone loss to West Genesee earlier in the week. Jacob Emmick led the offense with 2g-3a and Joey Barboza added 3g including the last two of the game.

Pal-Mac fought back from an 8-5 deficit, outscoring Cathedral Prep 3-1 in the final quarter, but it was not enough as the Red Raiders lost 11-10 in Erie, PA.

Down three goals in the last 3:30, Pal-Mac tied the game with just under 1:30 left in regulation. After giving up the go-ahead goal in man-down, the Red Raiders took control of the ball and had a good shot on the cage which was stopped at the buzzer by a great save by Prep.

Jake Gallina led the Pal-Mac scoring with 1g-4a while Zach Baker, Bennett Medyn and Grady Arnold each added 3g-1a for the Red Raiders who move to 2-1. Shaun Murphy was credited with 14 saves (56%).

Baldwinsville (Section 3) scored the first goal and never trailed as they beat traveling Pittsford 14-6. The Panthers started the last quarter down 9-6, but the Bees held them scoreless while adding five of their own. John Mozrall led Pittsford scoring with 2g-1a.
