Kirkpatrick Scores in Overtime
One day after an overtime loss, Gates Chili got an overtime win with a 9-8 victory over Brockport. The Spartan`s Jarrett Kirkpatrick scored his lone goal of the game only 0:23 into the first overtime period off an assist from Nicholas Ehmann. Ehmann was the big scorer for Gates Chili and finished with a hand in 7 out of 9 goals (4g-3a).
The game was back and forth with both teams leading at different times. The game was tied six times and the lead changed four times. Brockport opened up the scoring with Jeremy Hopsicker assisting Adam Tobey 3:32 into the contest. The Spartans got on the board less than one minute later with Ehmann`s first goal (unassisted). Gates Chili continued their offensive pressure with two more goals over the next four minutes. Kyle Krystan and Kyle Fingar scored to take the score to 3-1 for Gates Chili. The final goal of the quarter was scored by the Blue Devils. Jeremey Hopsicker scored the first of his four goals. The first quarter ended with the Gates Chili leading 3-2.
Brockport added the next three goals to take their largest lead of the game at 5-3. Tyler Stiefel, Hopsicker and Tucker Sutphen each scored for the Blue Devils. Stiefel`s goal came off an assist from Tobey, Hopsickers off a feed from Stiefel and Sutphen`s was unassisted. Gates Chili tied the score up before halftime with two goals of their own. Ehmann scored the first off an assist from Tim Eaton and 0:44 later assisted a goal to Krystan. The game was tied 5-5 at the half.
In the third quarter, Brockport scored the lone goal with Hopsicker assisting Nick Vergari at 1:55 left in the quarter. Ehmann opened up the fourth quarter with back to back goals to put Gates Chili in the lead for the final time. Over the remainder of the final quarter, Brockport tied the score twice (including forcing overtime with 1:47 remaining in regulation), but could not take back the lead. Going into overtime, Kirkpatrick scored off a feed from Ehmann to secure the win for the Spartans.
For Gates Chili, Kirkpatrick finished 13/21 at the face off draw with a team leading 8 groundballs. In the cage, Robert Phillips recorded 3 saves.
