Churchville-Chili 12 - Thomas 11 in Overtime
In one of the most excited games this season, Churchville-Chili scored the last three goals in regulation to force overtime before defeating Webster Thomas. Ryan Cosgrove scored his first goal of the game unassisted with 1:42 remaining in the first overtime period. The game was back and forth for its entirety with seven ties. The game also featured four sets of four goal runs (two from each team). The scoring was spread around for both teams with only one player from either team getting over three goals. Senior attackman, and former player of week, Aaron Buck finished with a hat trick and was the only player to do so. Webster Thomas junior midfielder Kevin Hill finished with the most points with 2g-2a for the Titans. Overall, eight players made the offensive book for the Saints and nine players made the offensive book for the Titans.
Churchville-Chili started off the scoring with an unassisted goal from Trevor Hodgins. Hodgins finished with 2g-1a for the Saints. The Titans fought back with two goals of their own to take their first lead of the game with 8:18 remaining. Cam Isaac and Pat LeMoine both scored unassisted goals for Thomas. Buck`s first goal tied the game with 7:12 remaining. Two minutes later the last goal of the opening quarter was scored when LeMoine found Hill open. The first quarter ended with Thomas leading 3-2.
Churchville-Chili struck quickly in the second quarter with two goals in the first two minutes. Hodgins scored his second (unassisted) and Cameron Shipley scored the first of his two goals. Shipley scored during a man-down illegal cross penalty against the Saints. This was the first of two man-down goals for the Saints. Overall, four of Churchville-Chili's goals were scored during uneven situations. With 10:01 remaining in the second quarter Churchville-Chili led 4-3. The rest of the game was four goal streaks by alternating teams. Thomas scored the next four goals all in the second quarter. With 2:09 remaining in the first half Churchville-Chili scored the first of their four goals streak spanning into the third quarter. The last of those goals was their second man down goal with Brandon Lohman assisted Joey Johnson with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter.
The second four goal streak for Thomas started in the third quarter (5:41) and ended in the fourth quarter (8:25). The last Titan goal of the game was scored by Christian Nairy and gave them a three goal lead with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation. Churchville-Chili scored three goals to tie the game within the next two minutes. The final goal in regulation was scored by Shipley with 6:19 remaining. The final six minutes were strong show of defense from both teams. Cosgrove`s goal was the third shot in regulation (one for Thomas and two for Churchville-Chili).
In the cage for Churchville-Chili, Mike Yehl played all but one minute with 10 recorded saves (50%). Matt Cobb also finished 50% with 1s/1ga in his one minute of game time. Defenseman Mike Caternolo finished with a team leading 10 goals for the Saints. He also finished with a 63% win ration at the face off draw (15/24). Davis Bird, the Thomas goalie finished with seven recorded saves.
