Doug Velepec's OT Goal Lifts Eagles Past McQuaid
IRONDEQUOIT-9 at MCQUAID JESUIT-8 - Irondequoit edged McQuaid Jesuit 9-8 in overtime Tuesday evening in a non-league game that went to a second overtime period before senior Doug Velepec scored the winner. The Eagles improve to 5-2 despite being outshot and facing 25 saves from McQuaid goalie Jackson Paladino.
For Irondequoit (5-2), freshman Liam West and senior Dylan Carey each led with two goals, while Doug Velepec added two goals including the game winner in double overtime. Senior Colin Giudice contributed one goal and two assists, and Kieran Stenzel and Hank Velepec each added one goal. Sam Thore contributed seven ground balls and three takes. Sophomore Colin Landrigan stopped 15 shots for a 65% save percentage in 55 minutes.
Irondequoit won 9-8 in double overtime Tuesday evening on Doug Velepec's game-winning goal, with Landrigan making 15 saves and Carey and West each posting two goals. For McQuaid Jesuit (2-3), senior Aidan O'Brien led with two goals and one assist, while senior Domenic Giangreco added one goal and two assists and senior Joe DiMarco contributed one goal and two assists, picking up his first varsity assist. John Burrows, Dominic Bianchi, Bryce Pitt, and Dominic Camarella each added one goal. Giangreco went 11-for-13 at the faceoff dot (85%) and Hudson Proia added seven wins in nine attempts (78%). Paladino stopped 25 shots for a 74% save percentage in 53 minutes.
